DAILY CRIME REPORTS – August, 2017

THE FOLLOWING INCIDENTS ARE AN ACCOUNT OF CALLS AND CASES RESPONDED TO BY OFFICERS OF THE RIDGELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT. THESE CASES ARE CLOSED OR CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. AUGUST 31, 2017

  • 2:22 a.m. – Several gunshots were reported outside of a residence on East Wilson Street.  

  • 2:39 a.m. – Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies in responding to a shooting incident at a residence on Mitchellville Road following an exchange of gunfire between the homeowner and a suspect on foot who fled into a wooded area.

  • 6:38 a.m. – Ridgeland Officers responding to the area of Captain Bill Road following a shooting incident at a residence on Fordville Road spotted a black Mercedes sedan on Beach Street coming from the Captain Bill intersection which matched the given description of the vehicle involved.  The suspect vehicle then struck a gray Nissan Versa at the intersection of East Main and North Logan Streets at which time the driver of the Mercedes, Shawn Jordan Battiste, fled the area heading South until coming to a stop at the intersection of Old Logan Street and Lydia Lane where he was ultimately charged and arrested by Jasper County Deputies for an unlawful carry of a handgun charge in addition to the hit and run charges initiated by RPD.  No injuries were reported in the collision.

  • 7:05 a.m. – A group of puppies were reportedly abandoned at the top of the I-95 Southbound entrance ramp at the exit 18 interchange.

  • 7:47 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Jasper County Council on Aging at 444 Wise Street.

  • 8:41 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Wise Street after the homeowner failed to arrive at work on time.

  • 10:05 a.m. – A complaint was filed regarding a Chevy pickup parked on East Main Street partially blocking a section of sidewalk.

  • 11:37 a.m. – A white Ford F150 pickup was involved in a single vehicle collision in the parking lot area of the Ridgeland Correctional Institution at 5 Correctional Road after striking a parking barrier.  No injuries were reported.

  • 1:00 p.m. – Ridgeland Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center at 12008 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in service of an outstanding warrant against inmate Dexter Leon Gray who has been housed at the facility since his August 3rd arrest for harassment and indecent exposure charges as well as an August 4th contempt of court sentence following an outburst of racial epithets during his bond hearing. Gray’s most recent charge stems from an investigation into threats he made against the same Judge who presided over his bond hearing.

  • 3:49 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted on a 42 year old male tenant at The Palms Motel at 10735 South Jacob Smart Boulevard after a call from a concerned relative.

  • 4:26 p.m. – A silver Toyota Camry and a white Dodge Ram van were involved in a collision outside of the Main Street Pharmacy at 7752 West Main Street.  No injuries were reported.

  • 4:46 p.m. – A suspicious gray BMW was reported in the parking lot area of the Quality Inn Motel at 221 James Taylor Drive.

  • 4:52 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 11 mile marker in reference to a silver Mazda sports car.

  • 5:09 p.m. – A complaint was filed at a residence on First Avenue regarding unwanted telephone calls.

  • 5:26 p.m. – A black male was reportedly harassing customers and passers by in the parking lot area of the Short Stop BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 6:05 p.m. – Officers responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of South Logan and Old Logan Streets where a silver Dodge Charger was found unoccupied in the roadway with heavy damage.  A search of the surrounding area revealed a Glock model 19 9mm handgun beside the vehicle which was found to be listed as stolen by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office in July of 2016. Further investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle to be identified as Devin Dwayne Swinton, 26 of Ridgeland, resulting in a warrant affidavit being filed against him under the charge of leaving the scene of a collision.  The stolen handgun was collected and turned over to responding Sheriff’s Deputies for analysis and possible pending charges.

  • 8:49 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Kingdom Touch Ministries Church at 6714 Tillman Road.

  • 9:21 p.m. – A suspicious white Honda was reported at D&R Auto Sales at 7622 West Main Street.

AUGUST 30, 2017

  • 12:18 a.m. – A verbal dispute between 2 females was reported at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street.

  • 4:12 p.m. – A suspicious vehicle was reported in the parking lot area at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.

  • 8:13 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported at the intersection of South Jacob Smart Boulevard and Smith’s Crossing in reference to a green van.

  • 10:54 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at the McDonald’s Restaurant at 8548 Grahamville Road stemming from an ongoing issue between the male complainant and the Mother of his children.

AUGUST 29, 2017

  • 7:21 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Coin Laundry at 10246 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 8:08 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.

  • 8:09 a.m. – A theft was reported at the Boat & RV Megastore at 401 Sycamore Drive after Management discovered an undisclosed amount of cash missing.

  • 9:02 a.m. – A black Jeep Liberty was stopped for a suspended Georgia tag violation on I-95 South around the 20 mile marker where driver Jose Mantanez III was found to be operating with no valid insurance coverage.  He was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date as Blatchley’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 9:37 a.m. – A group of suspicious males were reportedly firing a gun into the air at the intersection of Old House Road and Willis Drive.

  • 12:55 p.m. – A civil dispute between a male and a female regarding a recently issued Order of Protection was reported at the Jasper County Courthouse at 265 Russell Street.

  • 2:38 p.m. – A civil dispute was reported at a residence on Honeycomb Lane in the Bees Creek Plantation Community regarding a houseguest refusing to leave the property.

  • 8:06 p.m. – A noise complaint was filed at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street in reference to children playing in the parking lot area.

  • 10:22 p.m. – A trespassing complaint was filed at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street after Shane Jermaine Barrow was reportedly spotted on the property in violation of an August 21st trespass notice issued against him prohibiting him from doing so.  Responding Officers ultimately discovered him hiding underneath an assortment of clothing inside of a closet where he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. Barrow received an additional charge after he was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Hardeeville Police Department stemming from a failure to appear violation on a previous simple possession of marijuana charge.

AUGUST 28, 2017

  • 9:17 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at the Pratt Memorial Library at 451 East Wilson Street regarding a Hispanic male lying on the ground where Anthony Hernandez was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center after being found grossly intoxicated.

  • 11:01 a.m. – A theft was reported by a North Green Street resident after several unauthorized debit card charges made in Savannah GA and at an online money transfer service in early July were found on the complainant’s bank statement.

  • 1:31 p.m. – A complaint was filed of a black female walking in the center of the roadway at the intersection of Smith’s Crossing and Mitchellville Road.

  • 3:19 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 25 mile marker in reference to a tractor trailer.

  • 4:32 p.m. – An animal complaint was filed on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community regarding a stray brown dog with white spots roaming the area.

  • 4:54 p.m. – A suspicious female was reported outside of a residence on West Adams Street.

  • 9:15 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on McTeer Street after an open gate was found on the property.

AUGUST 27, 2017

  • 5:53 a.m. – A suspicious black male was reported in the parking lot area of the Gulf Station at 8250 East Main Street.

  • 9:19 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 25 mile marker in reference to a white tractor trailer.

  • 10:56 a.m. – A verbal domestic dispute between a male and a female was reported at a residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters MIll Estates Community.

  • 1:07 p.m. – An assault was reported at The Palms Motel at 10735 South Jacob Smart Boulevard after a Hispanic male allegedly made threatening statements towards another male.

  • 2:33 p.m. – An ongoing dispute between a female complainant and her daughter regarding a previously loaned vehicle was reported at Heron Crossing Apartments at 209 Heron Crossing Drive.

  • 4:19 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Baptist Church at 1448 Grays Highway.

  • 5:10 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 31 mile marker in reference to a black BMW.

  • 6:45 p.m. – Two suspicious white males were reported outside of a vacant residence on Grays Highway.

AUGUST 26, 2017

  • 12:11 a.m. – Jasper County Deputies responding to a larceny at a residence on Tarboro Road discovered suspect Edward Riley Hilderbran to be listed as a wanted person by the Ridgeland Police Department.  He was placed under arrest and turned over to their custody for transport to the Jasper County Detention Center. Hilderbran’s charges stemmed from a May 18th 2017 incident at the Dollar General Store at 8123 East Main Street where he was arrested and charged with shoplifting after being witnessed stealing store items by concealing them underneath his clothing.  He then failed to appear in Ridgeland Municipal Court to answer to the charges on June 5th where he was found guilty during a trial in absence and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A second shoplifting charge came on August 1st after he was captured on surveillance video stealing items at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard before leaving the business property prior to Law Enforcement arrival.

  • 12:40 a.m. – A noise complaint was filed at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue in reference to a vehicle speeding in and out of the parking lot area.

  • 10:07 a.m. – A white Buick LeSabre was stopped for speeding at the intersection of Captain Bill Road and North Jacob Smart Boulevard where passenger Mauricio Jacinto Radilla provided Officers with a fictitious name in an effort to conceal his identity.  He was ultimately positively identified through previous contact with Law Enforcement at which time he was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Ridgeland Police Department as well as being in possession of a quantity of marijuana.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the driver was cited for the speeding violation prior to leaving the area.  Radilla’s outstanding warrant stemmed from an April 2nd 2017 traffic stop at the intersection of Wood Duck Street and Cobia Lane where he was cited and assigned a court date after being found in possession of marijuana.  He was later found guilty of the charges in Ridgeland Municipal Court on April 24th and placed on a time payment plan to settle the court ordered fines which he failed to comply with resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.

  • 11:58 a.m. – A suspected shoplifting incident was reported at the Dollar General Store at 8123 East Main Street where Joanna St. Luce, 46 of Ridgeland, was ultimately placed on trespass notice for the business property at Management’s request.

  • 12:58 p.m. – A breach of trust complaint was filed in reference to the complainant loaning their tan 2001 Chrysler Town & Country mini van bearing South Carolina tag number NSI-152 to an acquaintance approximately 10 days ago at the Travelodge Motel at 8216 East Main Street who has since failed to return it.

  • 2:08 p.m. – Two BMW sedans were reportedly racing one another while traveling South on I-95 around the 25 mile marker.

  • 4:17 p.m. – A report of illegal narcotics activity was filed in reference to two subjects inside of a gray Chevy Cruze outside of the Blue Heron Nature Center at 321 Bailey Lane where responding Officers discovered Kyle Simmons and Jabree Anna Shurtz to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana as well as several pieces of drug paraphernalia containing a white powder residue.  Both were placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as GJ’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 5:29 p.m. – A suspicious tan Nissan Maxima was reported on the property of the Ridgeland Correctional Institution at 5 Correctional Road.

  • 9:35 p.m. – A child custody dispute was reported by a Lady’s Island resident regarding his previous home on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community.  Brian Jermen Scott, 35, was ultimately placed on trespass notice for the Sailfish Circle residence at the homeowner’s request.

AUGUST 25, 2017

  • 12:03 a.m. – A gray Chevy Suburban was stopped for a suspended Georgia tag violation at the entrance to Bees Creek Plantation where driver Kenyetta Shamane Williams was found to be operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license as well as having no valid insurance coverage.  She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as A-1 Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 1:51 a.m. – An abandoned orange moped was reported at the intersection of Highway 462 and Deloss Point Road.

  • 2:32 a.m. – An assault was reported in the area of the Subway Restaurant at 8234 East Main Street after a black male struck the complainant during a verbal dispute.  Surveillance video is being reviewed for pending charges.

  • 7:56 a.m. – A red Nissan Altima was involved in a single vehicle collision on I-95 South around the 17 mile marker after the driver lost control and struck the center median guard wires.  EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene, however no persons were transported.
  • 8:25 a.m. – A property damage complaint was filed at the Jasper County School District Office at 10942 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after an employee accidentally backed into an awning support post.  No injuries were reported.
  • 10:50 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 22 mile marker in reference to a white Volvo tractor trailer.

  • 11:32 a.m. – Officers responded to a report of a male subject lying on the ground at the intersection of West Main Street and Railroad Avenue where Lindsay Darnell Toomer was found to be grossly intoxicated with an open bottle of liquor in his possession.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

  • 1:02 p.m. – A gold Dodge Durango was stopped for a disregarding traffic control device violation on Wellington Loop where driver Arcadio Torres was found to be operating without a driver’s license.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Eric’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 1:18 p.m. – A complaint was filed by a Bluffton business owner after a recently terminated employee used a company issued credit card to make 4 separate unauthorized ATM withdrawals at two Ridgeland businesses on August 12th.

  • 3:38 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 in reference to a black Nissan Xterra traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 5:24 p.m. – A complaint of illegal drug activity was filed at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street.

AUGUST 24, 2017

  • 12:54 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Baptist Church at 1448 Grays Highway.

  • 1:06 a.m. – A suspicious black male was reported at the Citgo Station at 401 Sycamore Drive.

  • 4:12 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the South State Bank at 10671 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 7:52 a.m. – A suspicious white male was reported at the Blue Heron Nature Center at 321 Bailey Lane.

  • 12:15 p.m. – Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center at 12008 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in service of a newly issued warrant against inmate Bradford Keith Sandifer stemming from an August 23rd report filed at the Carquest Auto Parts Store at 11059 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after a check stolen from the business mailbox in late June was returned by the issuing bank bearing Sandifer’s signature.  11 additional checks from the same business remain outstanding.

  • 4:53 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 16 mile marker in reference to a U-Haul rental truck.

  • 4:53 p.m. – A suspicious black male pedestrian was reported at the intersection of Smith’s Crossing and Ellis Hodges Road.

  • 4:55 p.m. – A complaint was filed at the Travelodge Motel at 8216 East Main Street stemming from a verbal dispute between a female customer and a staff member.

  • 9:32 p.m. – A suspicious silver Chevy Impala was reported in the parking lot of the Ridgeland Coin Laundry at 10246 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

AUGUST 23, 2017

  • 3:41 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Spay & Neuter Animal Clinic at 21 Getsinger Street.

  • 8:10 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.

  • 2:31 p.m. – A Chevy SUV was stopped for a following too closely violation on I-95 South around the 17 mile marker where driver Emmanuel Then, 32 of Riverview FL, was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana.  He was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date prior to leaving the area.

  • 2:43 p.m. – A theft was reported in the parking lot of the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after 2 backpacks, one containing a wallet with identification, were stolen from the backseat of a vehicle left unlocked while the driver was inside of the store.  Surveillance video is being reviewed for suspect identification and pending charges.

  • 4:22 p.m. – A complaint was filed in the North Ridge Community in reference to a red and gray Ford F150 pickup being parked on the roadway without moving for several days.

  • 4:22 p.m. – A forgery was reported at the Carquest Auto Parts Store at 11059 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after a company check issued by a commercial customer was returned with a fraudulent signature.  The check was reportedly stolen from the Carquest Auto Parts mailbox in late June.

  • 4:34 p.m. – A civil dispute regarding marital property was reported at a residence on Wise Street.

  • 6:10 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Creative Living By Design Showroom at 7797 West Main Street.

  • 11:46 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 11 mile marker in reference to a maroon Toyota Camry.

AUGUST 22, 2017

  • 2:53 a.m. – A suspicious black male was reported in front of the EZ Stop IV Station at 80 Blue Heron Drive.

  • 4:58 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 8:12 a.m. – Officers traveled to the Aiken County Detention Center at 435 Wire Road in Aiken SC where inmate Sysha Fawn Barnes was turned over to their custody and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center in reference to an outstanding warrant issued by the Ridgeland Police Department.  Barnes’ charges stemmed from a June 11th 2016 traffic stop where she was cited for driving without a license.  She later failed to appear in Ridgeland Municipal Court on July 11th 2016 to answer to the charges where she was found guilty during a trial in absence and a warrant was issued for her arrest.  Further information received following her arrest revealed her to be listed as a wanted person by the York County PA Sheriff’s Office stemming from a probation violation resulting in an additional charge of fugitive from justice.

  • 4:59 p.m. – Two suspicious males in a white Ford Ranger pickup towing a trailer were reported at a vacant residence on Wise Street.  A second complaint was received at 8:41 p.m.

  • 5:27 p.m. – A 6 year old male juvenile was reported missing from the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway after getting on the wrong school bus after school. The child reportedly returned home at 6:21 p.m.

  • 8:04 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 30 mile marker in reference to a tan Honda.

AUGUST 21, 2017

  • 12:11 a.m. – A domestic dispute between a husband and wife was reported at a residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community.

  • 12:47 a.m. – A suspicious person was reported in a wooded area bordering the property of the Ridgeland Correctional Institution at 5 Correctional Road.

  • 5:52 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Grayco Home Building Supply Store at 119 Industrial Park Road.  A second activation occurred at 6:12 a.m.

    7:12 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Smith’s Crossing.


  • 9:59 a.m. – A complaint was filed at a residence on Captain Bill Road after a window on the homeowner’s Chevy Silverado pickup suffered damage from a stone allegedly thrown by equipment being used by a nearby landscaping crew.

  • 11:37 a.m. – Shane Jermaine Barrow, 27 of Hardeeville SC, was placed on trespass notice for the property of Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street at the Property Manager’s request.

  • 5:49 p.m. – A black Ford rollback truck and a gray GMC Envoy were involved in a collision in the Harvey’s Grocery Store parking lot at 8205 East Main Street.  No injuries were reported.

AUGUST 20, 2017

  • 1:49 a.m. – A noise complaint was filed on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community in reference to loud music coming from a neighboring home. A second complaint was received at 2:54 a.m.

  • 1:59 a.m. – A silver Toyota Prius was involved in a single vehicle collision on I-95 North around the 18 mile marker after striking an alligator in the roadway.  No injuries were reported.

  • 4:45 a.m. – A suspicious vehicle was reported on the side of the roadway on I-95 North around the 18 mile marker.

  • 12:30 p.m. – Four suspicious black males were reported at the Harvey’s Grocery Store at 8205 East Main Street.

  • 2:00 p.m. – A civil dispute regarding a child custody exchange was reported at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community.

  • 4:03 p.m. – An animal complaint was filed at the Ridgeland Baptist Church at 1448 Grays Highway in reference to 4 dogs locked inside of a kennel in the bed of a brown pickup.

  • 5:31 p.m. – A blue Toyota Camry and a silver Nissan Sentra were involved in a collision on I-95 North around the 21 mile marker.  No injuries were reported.

  • 5:55 p.m. – A gray Jaguar XJS and a white Chevy 1500 pickup were involved in a collision in the parking lot of the EZ Stop IV Station at 80 Blue Heron Drive.  No injuries were reported.

  • 7:23 p.m. – A complaint was filed regarding possible illegal drug activity at a residence on Oakridge North in the Oakridge Trailer Park Community. Responding Officers encountered an 18 year old Hispanic male pointing a rifle at another Hispanic male outside of a residence at which point he was disarmed at gunpoint without incident.  A check of the weapon determined it to be an air rifle which was then returned to the male with a warning of the possible consequences of pointing it at another person.

  • 7:40 p.m. – An assault was reported in the parking lot of the Wendy’s Restaurant at 8480 Grahamville Road after a male passenger reportedly struck the female driver in the side of the head while seated in her car during a verbal dispute before fleeing the area on foot prior to Law Enforcement arrival. Responding Officers soon after spotted the suspect attempting to conceal himself behind a tree near the Kelmont Drive intersection where he was detained without incident. James Daniel Montanaro was ultimately placed under arrest under a charge of assault and battery as further information gathered revealed him to be listed as a wanted person by the Medina County OH Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation stemming from a previous narcotics conviction in that jurisdiction.  He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center pending extradition back to Ohio.

  • 9:30 p.m. – A suspicious white male was reported outside of a residence on East Adams Street.

  • 11:01 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted on an intoxicated Hispanic male at a residence on North Green Street following a 911 call of a possible domestic dispute.  A second call was received from the same subject at 11:49 p.m.

  • 11:35 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at The Outpost Clothing Store at 10545 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

AUGUST 19, 2017

  • 3:52 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at the Waffle House Restaurant at 8185 East Main Street after reports were received of a black male recently placed on trespass notice possibly being on the business property.

  • 5:29 a.m. – A complaint was filed of a black male reportedly selling illegal narcotics at the Ralph Tuten Memorial Park at 529 East Main Street.

  • 9:08 a.m. – A group of vehicles were reportedly partially blocking traffic while parked on the side of the roadway at the intersection of Highway 462 and Salzburg Landing Road.

  • 9:59 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage at 10782 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 10:44 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 in reference to a white tractor trailer traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 2:33 p.m. – A blue Dodge 1500 pickup and a gray Honda Accord were involved in a collision on I-95 North around the 21 mile marker.  No injuries were reported.

  • 4:46 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 13 mile marker in reference to a maroon Mazda Miata.

  • 9:09 p.m. – A noise complaint was filed on McCormack Street in reference to a wooded area bordering the Carters Mill Estates Community.

  • 10:35 p.m. – A red Mitsubishi Lancer was stopped for an inoperable headlight violation at the intersection of Smith’s Crossing and Sauls Drive where driver Arnaldo Javier Maldanado Hunt was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine as well as operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license with no valid insurance coverage.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Scott’s Automotive took possession of the vehicle.

AUGUST 18, 2017

  • 2:37 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 20 mile marker in reference to a dark blue van.

  • 4:00 a.m. – A suspicious black male was reported in the parking lot area of the EZ Stop IV Station at 80 Blue Heron Drive.

  • 5:59 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Grayco Building Supply Store at 119 Industrial Park Road.

  • 8:02 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.

  • 9:55 a.m. – An animal complaint was filed at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street in reference to an adult Golden Retriever wandering the property.  The dog was transported by responding Officers to the Jasper Animal Rescue Mission at 1352 Carters Mill Road.

  • 10:20 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 in reference to a red Ford Mustang convertible traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 4:58 p.m. – A possible domestic dispute was reported between a male and a female traveling North on I-95 around the 18 mile marker in a white Honda Accord.

  • 8:20 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at Ken’s Tire Service at 10464 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 8:42 p.m. – A property damage report was filed at a residence on Pinckney Court after the homeowner returned from work to find that an unknown person had tampered with the outside portion of the deadbolt lock on the front door of the home sometime between 12:30 and 5:30 p.m.  There were no indications that anyone had made entry and no items were reported missing.

  • 11:06 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Advance Auto Parts Store at 10424 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 11:43 p.m. – A group of suspicious persons was reported behind Ken’s Tire Service at 10464 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

AUGUST 17, 2017

  • 12:16 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the DaVita Dialysis Center at 112 Weathersbee Street.

  • 12:53 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Short Stop BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 6:25 a.m. – A black Chevy Equinox was involved in a single vehicle collision after striking a deer in the roadway in front of the Ridgeland School at 250 Jaguar Trail.  Three occupants were transported by EMS to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville.

  • 8:23 a.m. – A complaint was filed in reference to a group of juveniles at the basketball court on Old Logan Street.  All subjects left the area of their own accord upon Law Enforcement arrival.

  • 9:09 a.m. – Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies at a residence on Malphrus Street where Dedrick Lamont Jenkins, 34 of Ridgeland, was taken into custody and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center under a charge of simple possession of marijuana.

  • 9:37 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 17 mile marker in reference to a tractor trailer hauling an oversized load.

  • 9:55 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.

  • 12:28 p.m. – Ridgeland Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center at 12008 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in service of an outstanding warrant against inmate Michael Dwayne Riley who’s charges stemmed from a May 21st 2016 at the Gulf Station at 8250 East Main Street where he was captured on surveillance video leaning over the business counter and stealing an undisclosed amount of cash after distracting the on duty cashier just after 4 a.m.  He was later arrested for the offense on January 7th 2017 after Ridgeland Officers spotted him in the passenger seat of a green Jeep in the parking lot of the same Gulf station. He then failed to appear in Ridgeland Municipal Court to answer to the charges on February 6th where he was found guilty during a trial in absence and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

  • 1:04 p.m. – A complaint of possible illegal drug activity was reported at the KFC Restaurant at 8146 East Main Street.

  • 1:52 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after reports were received of a 17 year old female runaway from Northern New Jersey possibly being in the area.

  • 2:24 p.m. – A domestic dispute between a female and her 16 year old Son was reported at a residence on Wiley Street after the Mother attempted to lock the juvenile out of the home.  Officers were dispatched to the same residence a second time at 5:36 p.m. during a verbal domestic dispute between the Mother and her Daughter.

  • 6:27 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the South State Bank at 10671 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 6:38 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 25 mile marker in reference to a brown Dodge Ram pickup towing a boat.

  • 7:03 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at the Star Point BP Station at 11122 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after a male acquaintance of the complainant allegedly made threatening statements.

  • 8:17 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at a residence on First Avenue in reference to an ongoing issue between the complainant and an ex-spouse. Responding Officers placed Rollin Jason Malphrus, 42 of Ridgeland, on trespass notice for the property of the First Avenue residence at the homeowner’s request.

  • 9:14 p.m. – A silver Mercedes c240 was stopped for speeding on I-95 North around the 19 mile marker where driver Rafael Antonio Hernandez-Zelaya was found to be operating without a driver’s license.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Elite Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 9:18 p.m. – A complaint was filed at the Waffle House Restaurant at 8185 East Main Street in reference to a black male and a white female asking customers and passers by for money in the parking lot area.  Both subjects left the area prior to Law Enforcement arrival. 

  • 10:10 p.m. – A suspicious black male was reported at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street.

  • 10:21 p.m. – A suspicious person was reported outside of a residence on East Wilson Street.

  • 11:08 p.m. – A burgundy Pontiac Grand Prix was involved in a single vehicle collision on I-95 North around the 22 mile marker after the driver lost control and struck a roadside drainage ditch.  No injuries were reported.

AUGUST 16, 2017

  • 1:12 a.m. – Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies in responding to a possible burglary in progress at a residence on Rice Shire Road.  The cause of the alarm activation was ultimately determined to be a family member.

  • 4:39 a.m. – A verbal domestic dispute between a male and a female was reported at a residence on Wise Street.

  • 11:23 a.m. – A property damage report was filed by a passing motorist on I-95 South around the 18 mile marker after a large piece of lumber fell from a red International flatbed tractor trailer and struck the windshield of the complainant’s tan Toyota Sequoia causing damage.  No injuries were reported.
  • 11:56 a.m. – A white male pedestrian was reportedly jumping in and out of traffic on I-95 North around the 22 mile marker.  Responding Officers spotted Justin Knopp urinating underneath the exit 22 interchange at which point he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

  • 2:58 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted on a disabled vehicle on I-95 South around the 18 mile marker.

  • 3:53 p.m. – Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies in responding to Captain Bill Road around the Henry Lawton intersection after the driver of a green Toyota Camry led Deputies on a short pursuit intentionally ramming 2 marked patrol vehicles before crashing into a roadside drainage ditch.  All four occupants then fled from the suspect vehicle running in separate directions with one dropping a bag containing numerous schedule II narcotics and a black Sig Sauer P250 9mm handgun which was found to be reported as stolen by the Bluffton Police Department.  Driver Javonte Lamont Heyward, 18 of Ridgeland, and passenger Octavius Montel Wright, 25 of Ridgeland, were apprehended following a brief foot pursuit and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center with Heyward receiving charges of failure to stop for blue lights/siren & no driver’s license in addition to both subject’s charges of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and two counts of attempted murder. An inventory of the suspect vehicle by responding Detectives revealed a black H&K USP Smith and Wesson 40 caliber handgun, a silver and black Jennings 9mm handgun, a silver and black Smith & Wesson SD40 VE handgun and a black Smith & Wesson MP 40 caliber handgun which was found to be listed as stolen by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.  Numerous quantities of marijuana were also recovered from inside and around the perimeter of the vehicle having been dropped by the fleeing suspects.

  • 5:17 p.m. – A complaint was filed by a passing motorist of empty cans falling from the open bed of a black Ford Tremor pickup on Old House Road.

  • 6:02 p.m. – A male juvenile was reportedly throwing stones at passing vehicles on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community.

  • 6:57 p.m. – A silver Ford Focus was struck by an unknown vehicle in the parking lot of the Short Stop BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.  No injuries were reported.

  • 12:07 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at the Travelodge Motel at 8260 East Main Street after a 911 hang up call was received by Jasper County Emergency Services.

  • 1:31 p.m. – An animal complaint was filed at the Ridgeland Physical Therapy Office at 10616 South Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to chickens from a nearby residence wandering the area.

  • 5:32 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the DaVita Dialysis Center at 112 Weathersbee Street.

  • 5:50 p.m. – A large piece of tire debris was reportedly blocking the roadway on the I-95 North off ramp at the exit 18 interchange.

  • 7:28 p.m. – A suspicious black male was reported at the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 7:37 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community after threats were reportedly made against the caller’s juvenile brother.

  • 8:19 p.m. – A blue Volkswagen Passat was stopped for speeding on I-95 North around the 23 mile marker where driver Junika Danyel Hales initially provided the Officer with a relative’s name and date of birth in an effort to conceal her identity. After determining that she had provided false information it was discovered that her North Carolina driver’s license was currently under a state of suspension at which point she was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Blatchley’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 9:49 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the South State Bank at 10671 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.  A second activation occurred at 10:23 p.m.

AUGUST 14, 2017

  • 9:19 a.m. – A suspicious black Dodge pickup was reported in the parking lot area at Heron Crossing Apartments at 72 Heron Crossing Drive.

  • 12:46 p.m. – A white Buick Encore was stopped for several moving violations on Old House Road at the Honey Hill curve where driver Alphonso Howard was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as A-1 Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 4:27 p.m. – A complaint was filed in reference to a white Dodge Durango illegally parked outside of the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 8225 East Main Street.

  • 4:47 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the DaVita Dialysis Center at 112 Weathersbee Street.

  • 5:03 p.m. – An animal complaint was filed in reference to a dog allegedly left out in the rain at a residence on North Green Street.

  • 8:38 p.m. – A blue Jaguar passenger car was reportedly stolen from a subject at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.  Responding Officers located the vehicle secured in the parking lot with no evidence of it having been moved.

  • 10:25 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at the Church of Christ at 112 East Wilson Street after a report that someone was possibly tampering with the outside air conditioning unit.

  • 10:55 p.m. – A fallen tree impeded traffic flow in front of Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street for approximately one hour.

  • 12:31 a.m. – A suspicious Hispanic male was reported outside of a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community.

  • 1:41 a.m. – A shooting incident occurred at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community after 4 shots were fired from outside of the home forcing the occupants to the floor as they called 911.  No injuries were reported.

  • 8:24 a.m. – Two black males in a small silver SUV were reportedly brandishing a silver handgun at another motorist traveling South on I-95 around the 32 mile marker.

  • 9:05 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Coin Laundry at 10246 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 6:00 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 32 mile marker in reference to a white Ford Focus.

  • 6:00 p.m. – A suspicious gray Jeep was reported in the parking lot area at Heron Crossing Apartments at 72 Heron Crossing Drive.

  • 8:33 p.m. – A dark colored tractor trailer was reportedly traveling South on I-95 around the 30 mile marker with no tail lights in operation.

  • 2:00 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 33 mile marker in reference to a blue hatchback.

  • 2:10 a.m. – A dumpster fire was reported behind the El Cheapo Station at 11033 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 3:27 p.m. – A black Toyota Tacoma and a red Toyota Tundra pickup were reportedly involved in a collision on West Main Street.  Both parties left the area prior to Law Enforcement arrival.

  • 3:32 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported at the intersection of Old House and Honey Hill Roads in reference to a black sedan.

  • 3:36 p.m. – A suspicious blue van was reported outside of the Ridgeland Correctional Institution at 5 Correctional Road.

  • 6:12 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the K&L Granite and Marble Showroom at 11742 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 8:00 p.m. – A legally parked and unoccupied white Nissan Versa was struck by a silver Honda Pilot in the parking lot area at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street.  No injuries were reported.

  • 9:48 p.m. – A suspicious white male was reported at Harvey’s Grocery Store at 8205 East Main Street.

  • 7:41 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Jasper County Courthouse at 265 Russell Street.

  • 8:49 a.m. – A gray Toyota Corolla was stopped for a no tag violation on I-95 South around the 18 mile marker where driver Brittany Laroche, 28 of Rincon GA, was found to be operating with no valid insurance coverage.  She was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date as Blatchley’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 9:17 a.m. – A domestic dispute between a male and a female with a child in common was reported at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street culminating in the male party snatching the female victim’s cell phone from her by force and then leaving the area prior to Law Enforcement arrival.  A warrant affidavit has been filed against Sidney Creighton Ford Jr., 18 of Ridgeland, charging him with larceny.

  • 2:48 p.m. – A gray Nissan Altima was stopped for speeding on I-95 South around the 18 mile marker where driver Santiago Gutierrez was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana and heroin.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as J&M Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 3:24 p.m. – A civil dispute regarding child custody was reported at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community after the male party took the children from the home yesterday afternoon at approximately 6 p.m. and did not return them until 10:30 a.m. on today’s date.

  • 4:37 p.m. – Two males were reportedly arguing in the parking lot at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue after one of them leaned on the other’s vehicle.

  • 7:43 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on Brooklyn Drive after a Hispanic male driving a gray van reportedly struck a light post.

  • 9:15 p.m. – A driver safety checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of North Green and Malphrus Streets where the following arrests were made:

  • Elvis Hidalgo Villeda-Benavides was found to be operating a burgundy Toyota Sequoia without a driver’s license or valid insurance coverage.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Webster’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • Dana Diane Deloach was found to be operating a silver Chevy Trax under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license while her passenger Alberto Gary was found to be in possession of an open container of alcohol.  Both were placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Scott’s Automotive took possession of the vehicle.

  • 9:23 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 11:23 p.m. – A driver safety checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of Bees Creek Road and the I-95 exit 18 exit ramp where the following arrests were made:

  • Salita Conica Patterson was found to be operating a gray Honda passenger car while in possession of a quantity of marijuana as well as being listed as a wanted person by the Hardeeville Police Department in reference to an outstanding Municipal failure to appear bench warrant.  She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

  • Eric Bernard Brown was found to be a passenger in a white Mini Cooper where a check of his information revealed him to be listed as a wanted person by the Ridgeland Police Department stemming from 4 outstanding warrants.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. Brown’s charge stemmed from a June 23rd 2014 traffic stop for a headlight violation at the intersection of West Main and Brabham Streets where he fled on foot from the red Jeep Liberty he was driving leaving behind a quantity of marijuana.  Further information revealed him to operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license stemming from failure to pay violations as well as being listed as a habitual traffic offender by the SCDMV.

  • A silver Mercury Sable wagon being driven by Antonio Durell-Ray Watson, 24 of Ridgeland, fled from the area in an effort to evade the checkpoint ultimately coming to a stop after he lost control crashing the vehicle at the intersection of Bees Creek and Scarlet Ibis Roads.  He then fled from the area on foot leaving behind a quantity of marijuana, his cell phone and South Carolina driver’s license.  A warrant affidavit has been filed against Watson charging him with simple possession of marijuana.

  • 12:20 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street stemming from a request by Effingham County GA authorities after receiving a suspicious 911 call.

  • 7:45 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Jasper County Courthouse at 265 Russell Street.

  • 8:18 a.m. – A flatbed tractor trailer was reportedly traveling South on I-95 around the 25 mile marker with a loose tarp covering the material being transported.

  • 11:09 a.m. – A white Chevy Malibu and a burgundy Hyundai Elantra were involved in a collision in the parking lot of the Harvey’s Grocery Store at 8205 East Main Street.  No injuries were reported.

  • 12:29 p.m. – Ridgeland Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center at 12008 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in service of a newly issued warrant against inmate Bradford Keith Sandifer after a review of numerous stolen documents seized at his residence on Hagin Drive during execution of a search warrant on August 2nd revealed a personal check reported stolen from the mailbox of a residence on Second Avenue several weeks ago.  The check was determined to have been filled out and signed by Sandifer with the forged signature of the Second Avenue victim appearing on the face.  Additional State and Federal charges are pending.

  • 2:45 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community in reference to threatening text messages. Officers were dispatched to the location a second time at 11:02 p.m.

  • 5:20 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 33 mile marker in reference to a black Buick Enclave.

  • 5:51 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Sailfish Circle after a babysitter was reportedly smoking and drinking while caring for the complainant’s child.

  • 9:25 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 17 mile marker in reference to a white sedan.

  • 11:51 p.m. – A suspicious light blue SUV was reported at a residence on Colony Drive in the Bees Creek Plantation Community.

  • 3:14 a.m. – A white Dodge Caravan was stopped for speeding on I-95 South around the 21 mile marker where driver Popaul Holdings Tshimanga, 35 of Hayward CA, was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana.  He was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date prior to leaving the area.

  • 6:36 a.m. – A suspicious blue van was reported at the Ridgeland Cemetery at Ingram Street and Hagin Drive.

  • 7:17 a.m. – Rodney Stephen Lewis II turned himself in to Officers at the Jasper County Detention Center in reference to an outstanding warrant issued against him by the Ridgeland Police Department.  Lewis’ charges stemmed from a January 31st 2014 incident at the Boat & RV Megastore at 401 Sycamore Drive where, after being terminated from his employment the previous day, he returned to the business property where he assaulted a staff member during a verbal dispute.  He then fled the area prior to Law Enforcement arrival.

  • 8:36 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the King of Carts Showroom at 10750 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 12:56 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 23 mile marker in reference to a red and silver tractor trailer car hauler.

  • 2:32 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 38 mile marker in reference to a green Ford pickup escorting an oversize load tractor trailer.

  • 2:34 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 31 mile marker in reference to a black Volvo tractor trailer.

  • 3:14 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 in reference to a Fedex tractor trailer traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 5:08 p.m. – A burgundy Honda Accord and a black Mercedes S series passenger car were involved in a collision in front of the Main Street Pharmacy at 7752 West Main Street.  No injuries were reported.

  • 7:40 p.m. – A noise complaint was reported at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street in reference to loud music.  A second complaint was filed at 11:32 p.m.

  • 2:25 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted on a 53 year old male at a residence on Promise Way after a suspicious 911 call was received with him speaking incoherently.  He was ultimately transported by EMS to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville where he had just been released from on yesterday’s date. He was ultimately transported at 8:47 a.m. to the Three Rivers Behavioral Health Center in West Columbia for evaluation and treatment.

  • 7:56 a.m. – A suspicious red Kia Optima was reported outside of a residence on Sycamore Drive.

  • 10:21 a.m. – An animal complaint was filed at Harvey’s Grocery Store at 8205 East Main Street in reference to a brown Dachshund roaming the business property.

  • 10:33 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street after a 911 hang up call was received by Jasper County Emergency Services.

  • 11:10 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at Heron Crossing Apartments at 72 Heron Crossing Drive after several people were reportedly arguing in the parking lot area.

  • 11:38 a.m. – A disturbance was reported at the Shell Station at 8309 East Main Street after a female customer and her son began arguing with staff members.

  • 1:40 p.m. – A domestic dispute between a female complainant and her Aunt was reported at Heron Crossing Apartments at 72 Heron Crossing Drive.

  • 4:34 p.m. – A civil dispute was reported at a residence on East Langford Street in reference to loaned property.

  • 5:27 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 20 mile marker in reference to a white Chevy Malibu.

  • 6:26 p.m. – A missing dog was reported at a residence on First Avenue.

  • 6:44 p.m. – A property damage complaint was filed at an unoccupied residence on Dolphin Drive in the Carters Mill Estates Community after 5 male juveniles were discovered hiding inside of the home just after 2 p.m. by a maintenance staff member. An inspection of the property revealed that the juveniles had knocked holes in several walls, poured paint onto a floor and torn curtains from the windows.  All 5 were turned over to the custody of their parents who agreed to pay for the damages in lieu of criminal charges.

  • 7:13 p.m. – Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies in conducting a welfare check at a residence on Stiney Road after screaming was heard on a 911 hang up call received by Jasper County Emergency Services.

  • 11:30 p.m. – A suspicious female was reported at Schooners Bar & Grill at 10953 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

AUGUST 7, 2017

  • 8:51 a.m. – A 53 year old white male was voluntarily transported to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville for a mental evaluation after displaying signs of erratic behavior and using obscenities at the Palmetto Veterinary Hospital at 409 South Green Street.  He was later released by hospital staff just after 2 p.m.

  • 8:51 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.

  • 10:30 a.m. – A Dodge van was involved in a collision at the Christ Central Mission at 11754 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after the driver struck a large section of concrete.  No injuries were reported.

  • 11:45 a.m. – Yasmeen Contilina Brantley was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center from the South Carolina Department of Probation & Parole Office at 214 Second Avenue in reference to outstanding warrants issued by the Ridgeland Police Department.  Brantley’s charges stemmed from a July 1st 2015 traffic stop at the intersection of Wilson and Green Streets where she provided a false name and date of birth in an effort to conceal her identity due to an outstanding shoplifting warrant issued against her for a May 14th 2015 incident at the Gulf Station at 8250 East Main Street where she was captured on surveillance video stealing store items.  Later, on May 19th 2016, the female who’s name Brantley had used on the July traffic stop contacted RPD in reference to the SCDMV sending notification that her South Carolina driver’s license had been placed under suspension due to that ticket being unpaid.  She provided evidence that she was living in the state of Texas at the time of the stop prompting Investigators to review the dash mounted and Officer body camera footage which revealed Yasmeen Brantley as being the person operating the vehicle on the day in question and using the complainant’s name and date of birth.  Two warrants were then issued for her arrest charging her with driving under suspension and providing false information to Police in addition to the already outstanding shoplifting warrant.  She was later arrested on March 31st 2017 by Jasper County Deputies conducting a traffic stop in the parking lot of Duke’s Barbecue Restaurant at 10190 South Jacob Smart Boulevard and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center where Ridgeland Officers served the outstanding warrants against her.  She then failed to appear in Ridgeland Municipal Court to answer to the charges on May 15th 2017 where she was found guilty during a trial in absence and two bench warrants were issued for her arrest.

  • 2:12 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 13 mile marker in reference to a silver SUV.

  • 4:37 p.m. – A large group of males were reportedly involved in a fight at Turpin Park at 901 North Logan Street.

  • 6:13 p.m. – A larceny complaint was filed in reference to a previously unreported incident that allegedly occurred on Sunday August 6th at the Family Dollar Store at 74 South Green Street where the complainant accidentally left his wallet lying on the checkout counter which was later returned to him with items missing.

  • 8:51 p.m. – A silver Dodge Durango and a silver Dodge Caravan were involved in a collision on East Wilson Street.  No injuries were reported.

AUGUST 6, 2017

  • 2:09 a.m. – A silver Nissan Versa was stopped for speeding on I-95 South around the 21 mile marker where driver Yesenia Lee Jimenez was found to be operating under a suspended New Jersey driver’s license.  She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed passenger.

  • 5:05 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community after a 911 hang up call was received by Jasper County Emergency Services.

  • 10:52 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on Wise Street in reference to a white Ford Escape.

  • 10:58 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Oakridge North in the Oakridge Trailer Park Community stemming from a dispute between a male and a female who was reportedly forced into the home against her will.

  • 12:26 p.m. – An animal complaint was reported at the Wendy’s Restaurant at 8480 Grahamville Road in reference to a stray cat roaming the business property.

  • 12:41 p.m. – A Chevy Silverado pickup and a Nissan Cube were involved in a collision on the I-95 South exit ramp at the 21 mile marker interchange.  A 10 year old female passenger was transported by EMS to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville for treatment.

  • 2:48 p.m. – Taleed Rashee Drake, 37 of Ridgeland, was placed on trespass notice for the business property of the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at Management’s request.

  • 3:56 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Promise Way after a male tenant turned off the power supply to the home and began making suspicious statements.

  • 5:30 p.m. –  A civil complaint was filed at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community stemming from a child custody exchange.

  • 5:36 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on McCormack Street.

  • 6:30 p.m. – A black male was reportedly selling narcotics on the business property of the Travelodge Motel at 8216 East Main Street.

  • 7:23 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on South Jacob Smart Boulevard at the Main Street intersection in reference to a gold Chevy 4 door sedan.

  • 11:28 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Wiley Street in reference to the living conditions of a female juvenile.

  • 11:42 p.m. – A robbery was reported on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community after a black male struck a Hispanic male victim in the head before stealing his wallet containing identification and an undisclosed amount of cash.  The suspect was last seen running North towards Heron Crossing Apartments.

AUGUST 5, 2017

  • 2:21 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted at Schooner’s Bar & Grill at 10953 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after reports were received of a woman screaming.

  • 4:46 a.m. – A Mercedes s550 was stopped for several moving violations in the parking lot of the Citgo Station at 107 Sycamore Drive after reckless driver complaints were received involving the same vehicle as it traveled North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.  Driver Kelvin Bostick, 41 of Tillman SC, was ultimately determined to be operating under the influence of alcohol at which point he was placed under arrest by assisting South Carolina Highway Patrol Officers and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center under a charge of driving under the influence as Scott’s Automotive took possession of the vehicle.

  • 8:49 a.m. – A suspicious person was reported at The Palms Motel at 10735 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 11:46 a.m. – A civil complaint was filed at a residence on West Adams Street stemming from a dispute between two roommates.

  • 12:52 p.m. – An alleged drunk driver was reported at the intersection of South Green Street and South Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a white female driving a burgundy Ford Taurus.

  • 3:30 p.m. – A suspicious black male was reported at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 3:37 p.m. – An alleged drunk driver was reported at the Forest Motel at 10504 South Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a black male driving an older model white Chevy pickup.

  • 5:44 p.m. – A civil complaint was filed at a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community stemming from a child custody exchange.

  • 6:56 p.m. – A complaint was filed by a motorist on Sailfish Circle after a juvenile reportedly threw a can at the caller’s vehicle.

  • 6:59 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Second Avenue.

  • 8:07 p.m. – A red Toyota Camry was stopped for speeding on Malphrus Street where driver Donnell Sherman Singleton Jr. was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana as well as operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Little T’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 8:08 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street in reference to unwanted telephone calls.

  • 9:55 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Baptist Church at 1448 Grays Highway.

  • 11:59 p.m. – A white GMC Jimmy was stopped for speeding on Old House Road at the Good Hope Plantation intersection where passenger Lavar Demond Medlock, 37 of Ridgeland, was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office in reference to an outstanding Family Court bench warrant.  He was turned over to the custody of responding Sheriff’s Deputies for warrant service and transport to the Jasper County Detention Center.

  • 8:16 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.

  • 8:54 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on West Adams Street.

  • 1:04 p.m. – A brown honda CR-V and a tan Toyota Avalon were involved in a collision in the parking lot of the McDonald’s Restaurant at 8548 Grahamville Road.  No injuries were reported.

  • 1:31 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted in the area of the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after a 911 hang up call was received by Jasper County Emergency Services.

  • 1:58 p.m. – An animal complaint was filed at the Ridgeland Coin Laundry at 10246 South Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a large dog wandering the business property.

  • 2:24 p.m. – Officers responded to the Jasper County Detention Center in reference to inmate Dexter Leon Gray shouting racial slurs at a Summary Court Judge during his bond hearing following his arrest on yesterday’s date. Responding Officers charged him with contempt of court resulting in an immediate 30 day sentence.

  • 3:27 p.m. – A black Jeep Cherokee and a red Kia Soul were involved in a collision in the parking lot of the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.  No injuries were reported.

  • 4:10 p.m. – A theft was reported at a residence on East Adams Street after Tiffany Delaine Cooler, 29 of Ridgeland, snatched the keys to the complainant’s gray 2001 Buick LeSabre, (SC tag NJH-748), while a guest inside his home and then fled the area with his vehicle and a black female accomplice in the passenger seat.  A warrant has been issued for Cooler’s arrest charging her with grand larceny.

  • 4:45 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 33 mile marker in reference to a black sedan.

  • 6:07 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Third Avenue.

  • 6:48 p.m. – A suspicious white male pedestrian was reported on Nuna Rock Road.

  • 7:46 p.m. – A large group of motorcycles were reportedly impeding traffic flow on I-95 South around the 28 mile marker.

  • 8:41 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 24 mile marker in reference to a tractor trailer car hauler.

  • 11:04 p.m. – A disturbance was reported at a residence on Wise Street after an estranged spouse returned uninvited to the home several times throughout the day knocking on windows. 

  • 11:29 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted on a black female pedestrian walking East on Old House Road at the I-95 overpass.

AUGUST 3, 2017

  • 6:27 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Pizza Bella Restaurant at 8196 East Main Street.

  • 11:21 a.m. – A welfare check was conducted on the well being of 4 children at a residence on East Wilson Street at the request of the Jasper County DSS Office.

  • 12:56 p.m. – Tammy Cleland Sandifer was placed under arrest at her residence on Hagin Drive and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center after a warrant was issued for her arrest stemming from a large volume of stolen mail, credit cards and checks discovered in her bedroom during execution of a search warrant on yesterday’s date.  Charges were also filed against her husband Bradford Keith Sandifer who was already being housed at the Jasper County Detention Center since his July 27th arrest by Sheriff’s Deputies for a probation violation stemming from a previous conviction.

  • 1:30 p.m. – Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center in service of an outstanding warrant against inmate Dexter Leon Gray following his arrest by the Hardeeville Police Department stemming from a second outstanding warrant in that jurisdiction for an incident where he reportedly exposed himself to a child seated in a vehicle parked outside of a local gas station.  Gray’s charges with Ridgeland PD stemmed from a June 11th incident at the EZ Stop IV Station at 80 Blue Heron Drive where he made sexually suggestive remarks to a female victim sitting in her car ultimately going so far as to lean inside of her vehicle ignoring numerous requests by the victim to be left alone.  Gray was shortly after stopped on First Avenue where he was cited for the offense which was later enhanced to a felony charge and a warrant was issued for his arrest.  He is also listed as a primary suspect in a similar harassment incident at the Econo Lodge Motel at 511 James Taylor Drive on June 28th as well as an additional indecent exposure incident in the parking lot of the Shell Station at 8309 East Main Street on July 22nd.

  • 7:04 p.m. – A white Chevy 3500 utility van was involved in a single vehicle collision on I-95 South around the 23 mile marker after the driver lost control and struck a group of trees.  The 38 year old male driver was airlifted to Savannah Memorial Hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in the collision.

  • 10:36 p.m. – A group of three suspicious males and one female was reported on West Adams Street near the Sisters Ferry Road intersection.

  • 11:27 p.m. – A harassment complaint was filed at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street in reference to the complainant reportedly receiving threatening telephone calls.

AUGUST 2, 2017

  • 8:05 a.m. – A verbal domestic dispute between a male and a female was reported at a residence on Colony Drive in the Bees Creek Plantation Community.

  • 8:48 a.m. – A property damage complaint was filed at Lenders Loans at 7789 West Main Street after employees arriving for work discovered that the front window glass of the business had been struck by an unknown person during the overnight hours causing it to shatter.  Surveillance footage is being reviewed in the matter.

  • 10:41 a.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 18 mile marker in reference to a white tractor trailer.

  • 10:54 a.m. – A 39 year old white male was voluntarily transported by EMS from the intersection of West Main Street and Railroad Avenue to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville for mental evaluation and treatment.

  • 12:01 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted on the well being of two small children at a residence on Hagin Drive after reports were received of illegal drug activity occurring at the home within the children’s presence.  Upon entering the home marijuana was immediately observed in plain view on the living room sofa as well as blotter paper soaked in an unknown substance and then cut and packaged in small clear plastic baggies inside of a bedroom at which point Investigators filed for a search warrant on the home.  Jarrett Scott Sandifer and Robert Michael Halldorson were found hiding inside of a hallway bathroom where Sandifer was found to be in possession of a quantity of schedule II narcotics and Halldorson was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Ridgeland Police Department stemming from an April 29th burglary where he and co-defendant Matthew Gene Hatchell, 20 of Ridgeland, broke into a home on Live Oak Farm Road during the nighttime hours and stole a rifle and ammunition before fleeing the state to Wythe County VA where both were later arrested on June 7th after committing burglaries in that jurisdiction.  The Hagin Drive search warrant was immediately executed resulting in the seizure of several hundred opioids including Hydrocodone, Suboxone & Oxycodone as well as used syringes and spoons containing drug residue and various other pieces of paraphernalia.  A large quantity of opened and unopened letters and documents was also discovered bearing various addresses from the surrounding area as well as numerous credit/debit cards, car titles, personal checks and business checks with some bearing what is suspected to be forged signatures.  Sandifer and Halldorson were both transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as DSS Agents responded to the scene where a 6 year old girl and an 18 month old boy were ultimately taken into emergency protective custody and placed in foster care pending a Family Court hearing.  US Postal Inspectors were contacted in regards to the mail, checks and credit cards recovered inside the home with possible charges pending against additional persons.

  • 1:24 p.m. – A black male pedestrian was reportedly walking North on I-95 around the 23 mile marker.  The subject was escorted to the Point South area and advised of the penalties for walking on the interstate.

  • 2:14 p.m. – A suspicious black male was reported at the intersection of West Main Street and Railroad Avenue.

  • 2:38 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 North around the 22 mile marker in reference to a silver Honda.

  • 4:50 p.m. – A silver Dodge 3500 pickup and a silver Ford Taurus were involved in a collision in the parking lot of Harvey’s Grocery Store at 8205 East Main Street. No injuries were reported.

  • 5:50 p.m. – A white male and a female were reportedly causing a disturbance outside of a residence on Malphrus Street.

  • 8:11 p.m. – A theft was reported at the Dollar General Store at 8123 East Main Street after a white female was witnessed stealing store items by concealing them inside of her purse.  She was confronted by Management in the parking lot where she returned the items prior to Law Enforcement arrival.  Brandi Dawn James was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center under a charge of shoplifting as well as being placed on trespass notice for the Dollar General business property at Management’s request.

  • 11:39 p.m. – A suspicious white female in a Pontiac Grand Prix was reported outside of a residence on Third Avenue.

AUGUST 1, 2017

  • 3:01 a.m. – A black male was reportedly rummaging through a vehicle parked outside of a residence on Ike Street in the North Ridge Community before fleeing from the area on foot running towards Smith’s Crossing when alerted to the fact that he had been seen by witnesses.  Evidence collected at the scene has been submitted to the SLED Forensics Laboratory for analysis and suspect identification.

  • 4:32 a.m. – Ridgeland Officers assisted South Carolina Highway Patrol with traffic control after a white Peterbilt tractor trailer erupted into flames on I-95 South around the 24 mile marker.  No injuries were reported and the vehicle was not carrying hazardous materials.

  • 5:33 a.m. – A verbal domestic dispute between a male and a female was reported at the Travelodge Motel at 8216 East Main Street.

  • 11:00 a.m. – A white Jeep Cherokee was stopped for a failure to signal turn violation on I-95 South at the exit 21 interchange where driver Justin A. Trenka, 18 of Ronkonkoma NY, was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana. He was cited for the offense and assigned a court date prior to leaving the area.

  • 11:27 a.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 456 Grays Highway.  A second activation occurred at 11:52 a.m.

  • 11:50 a.m. – A suspicious white Kia was reported on I-95 traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 1:38 p.m. – A white Nissan passenger car was stopped for speeding on I-95 North around the 24 mile marker where driver John Herbert Wynn was found to be operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed passenger.

  • 2:01 p.m. – A black Honda Pilot was stopped for several moving violations including passing on the shoulder on I-95 North around the 24 mile marker where driver Frankie Rodney Geathers was found to be operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license stemming from failure to pay violations with several previous convictions for driving under suspension resulting in a habitual traffic offender status being assigned by the SCDMV.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed passenger.

  • 2:53 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Kingdom Touch Ministries Church at 6714 Tillman Road.

  • 3:06 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 in reference to a white Ford Fusion traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 3:14 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 South around the 33 mile marker in reference to a tractor trailer.

  • 4:32 p.m. – A reckless driver was reported on I-95 in reference to a burgundy pickup traveling North between Hardeeville and Ridgeland.

  • 6:08 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the El Cheapo Station at 11033 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 6:10 p.m. – Officers responded to an activated alarm at the King of Carts Showroom at 10750 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

  • 7:21 p.m. – A white Chevy Silverado pickup was stopped at the intersection of South Logan Street and Augusta Avenue for a failure to signal turn violation as well as disregarding a posted stop sign at the East Adams Street intersection where driver Jason Floyd Cribb was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Blatchley’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

  • 9:21 p.m. – A theft was reported at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after a white male was captured on surveillance video stealing store items by concealing them underneath his clothing before leaving the business property walking West towards Green Street.  A warrant affidavit has been filed against Edward Riley Hilderbran, 27 of Ridgeland, in addition to his already outstanding warrant stemming from a May 18th 2017 arrest following a shoplifting incident at the Dollar General Store at 8123 East Main Street.  He later failed to appear in Ridgeland Municipal Court to answer to the charge on June 5th where he was found guilty during a trial in absence and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
