DAILY CRIME REPORTS – May, 2014

THE FOLLOWING INCIDENTS ARE AN ACCOUNT OF CALLS AND CASES RESPONDED TO BY OFFICERS OF THE RIDGELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT. THESE CASES ARE CLOSED OR CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. MAY 31, 2014

Officers responded to an attempted burglary at a residence at Heron Crossing Apartments where a male caused damage to a door but was unable to gain entry before fleeing the area. The suspect was positively identified, however the victim declined pursuing charges.

A harassment report was filed on West Adams Street after a male reportedly made threats against another. No charges were filed.

A civil dispute was reported by a customer of the ATV Warehouse at 8167 East Main Street in reference to paperwork issued regarding a previous purchase.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Star Point BP Station at 11122 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

Three warrant affidavits were filed against Kingsley Taylor Jr., 24 of Savannah, after he slashed all four tires of his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street before kicking in her front door and assaulting her inside of the residence. He then fled the scene in a black Dodge Avenger prior to the victim calling 911.

Donald Grantham Jr. was placed under arrest on Sycamore Drive after Patrol Officers spotted him intoxicated and consuming alcohol while walking beside the roadway. Grantham attempted to discard the bottle in a nearby drainage ditch as Officers approached resulting in a littering charge in addition to the disorderly conduct violation.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 913 Grays Highway.

A noise complaint was filed by a resident at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue in reference to several males in the parking lot. No charges were filed.

A silver Crown Victoria was involved in a single vehicle collision when the driver lost control and struck the Liberty Convenience Store at 8548 Grahamville Road. No injuries were reported.

A black Ford Mustang was stopped for speeding on I-95 North where driver Eric Greene was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed passenger.

MAY 30, 2014

A 911 call was received in reference to a reckless driver in a Volkswagen Passat on I-95 South between Ridgeland and Hardeeville which was forwarded to Highway Patrol. An off duty Ridgeland Officer then spotted the vehicle around the 15 mile marker as it swerved across both lanes of traffic numerous times forcing other travelers to keep a safe distance. The driver then left the roadway into the center median striking a tree before getting back onto the roadway continuing to swerve across both lanes of travel dropping numerous pieces of debris as a result of the collision. Ridgeland Officers relayed the information to Central Dispatch and continued to follow the vehicle to the exit 8 area where the driver quickly pulled into a parking space in the Motel 6 parking lot at 120 Independence Boulevard while dragging the vehicle bumper behind. Highway Patrol and Hardeeville Officers quickly arrived on scene at which time the driver, Marisa Diaz, 28 of Miramar FL, was found to be operating under the influence. She was placed under arrest and charged with DUI 1st by Highway Patrol Officers and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A white Isuzu NPR struck a power pole in the parking lot of the Quality Inn Motel at 221 James Taylor Drive. No injuries were reported.

Officers responding to a suspicious person call at the Econo Lodge Motel at 511 James Taylor Drive discovered William Gillyard in possession of an open container of alcohol, intoxicated and urinating beside the building. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A domestic dispute was reported at a residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community. No charges were filed.

MAY 29, 2014

Officers responded to a suspicious person causing a disturbance and harassing customers at the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard. The suspect left the scene prior to the Officer’s arrival but was spotted across the street on the I-95 South on ramp where he was found to be intoxicated and consuming alcohol. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. Destefano is listed as a wanted person by the Volusia County Florida Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on an open container violation, however, no hold for extradition was requested by that agency.

A Chevy Silverado and a Mercedes passenger car were involved in a collision on Highway 462 in front of the Zion Oak Grove Church at 3595 Coosaw Scenic Drive. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Fourth Avenue.

A civil dispute was reported at the Ridgeland Alternative School at 456 Grays Highway in reference to the complainant’s vehicle being taken by an acquaintance without permission and then returned with a possible malfunction.

A report was filed at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue of several males allegedly armed with handguns arguing in the parking lot.

Hampton County Sheriff’s Deputies investigating a stolen check case forwarded information to Ridgeland Investigators that one of the checks in question had been forged and cashed at the Regions Bank at 11004 North Jacob Smart Boulevard and another at the Check Into Cash store at 8225-D East Main Street. Video footage of the incident was collected in addition to numerous documents at which time two warrant affidavits were filed against Odis Rhoden, 42 of Early Branch SC, for the offenses.

A suspicious vehicle was reported in the parking lot of the Family Dollar Store at 73 South Green Street.

A white Mazda Miata convertible was stopped for speeding on I-95 South where driver Juan Manuel Espericueta-Blanco was found to be operating without a valid driver’s license. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Scott’s Automotive took possession of the vehicle.

MAY 28, 2014

Officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on North Logan Street after Jacque Pierce threw his girlfriend’s car keys into a wooded area in an attempt to not allow her to leave the premises. As Officers searched the area for the keys Pierce followed the female into the street several times shouting and cursing at her. He was ultimately placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. The victim refused to file charges in reference to the larceny of the car keys.

A property damage report was filed at a residence on McCormack Avenue in reference to a mower throwing a rock into the rear window of a green Mazda MPV.

A Lincoln Town Car was involved in a single vehicle collision after the driver lost control while traveling South on I-95 around the 24 mile marker. The vehicle then left the roadway crossing over the right shoulder and ultimately stopping on Nuna Rock Road. One occupant was flown from the scene to Savannah Memorial Hospital and two were transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville.

Blair Wallace was arrested by Jasper County Deputies on May 26th at the South Carolina/Georgia state line on Highway 17 South after being found inside of a gated construction area. He was released from jail on May 28th but refused to leave the property after numerous orders by Detention Center Staff. Ridgeland Officers responded to the scene at which time Wallace was placed under arrest and turned back over to Detention Center Staff.

A red Honda reportedly involved in a hit and run incident at the Waffle House Restaurant at 16433 Whyte Hardee Boulevard in Hardeeville was spotted at the 22 mile marker on I-95 North in Ridgeland. Hardeeville Patrol Officers then escorted the vehicle back to the scene of the collision.

A hit and run was reported at the intersection of Roseland Road and Highway 462 after an older model burgundy vehicle struck a blue Honda Civic and the left the area. No injuries were reported.

MAY 27, 2014

A white GMC Yukon was stopped on I-95 North where driver Anthony Papilion was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana as well as operating without a driver’s license in possession. A check of his information showed his North Carolina driver’s license to currently be under a state of suspension at which time he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed passenger.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Boys & Girls Club at 913 Grays Highway.

Patrick Lee Van Horn was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center after being found sleeping at the corner of Jacob Smart Boulevard and Main Street. Horn had been warned by Officers not to sleep in the area when he was found in the same place on May 25th.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on East Woodlawn Street.

James Powell was found grossly intoxicated and sleeping behind a fountain at the Ralph Tuten Memorial Park at 80 Blue Heron Drive. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A Volvo tractor trailer and a Ford F-150 pulling a camper were involved in a collision on I-95 South around the 18 mile marker. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at Ken’s Tire Service at 10464 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A suspicious person in a burgundy mini van was reported on Oakridge drive in the Oakridge Trailer Park Community.

MAY 26, 2014

A wine colored Daewoo Lanos bearing SC tag number HIM-567 was reported stolen from a residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community at approximately 4:30 am.

A civil dispute was reported at Handy Dan’s Exxon Station at 8310 East Main Street after an employee inadvertently released too much change to a customer who was repeatedly requesting change for $100 bills.

A report of a subject screaming was filed by a resident on Smith Street in reference to sounds heard coming from Turpin Park at 901 North Logan.

A Chevy Captiva was involved in a single vehicle collision around the 18 mile marker on I-95 South after a flat tire caused the driver to lose control. One occupant was transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville.

A report of property damage was filed at the Christ Central Mission at 11754 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a resident damaging home property. No charges were filed.

A missing persons report was filed by a resident on Colony Drive in the Bees Creek Plantation Community. Officers were ultimately able to make contact with the subject.

A harassment complaint was filed at the McDonald’s Restaurant at 8548 Grahamville Road. No charges were filed.

MAY 25, 2014

Officers responded to the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard where Sabrina Williams was found to be under the influence running through the parking lot of the business speaking incoherently. At one point Williams attempted to run after a white Chevy Traverse as it made a u-turn in front of the business shouting that the subjects in the vehicle had kidnapped her. A traffic stop was then conducted on the Traverse around the 24 mile marker on I-95 North where the occupants stated that Sabrina Williams had asked for a ride from St. Helena which was corroborated by an additional witness at the Sunoco Station. While speaking with the driver of the Traverse, Patrice Robinson, Officers observed several open containers inside the vehicle which all occupants stated belonged to Sabrina Williams. A check of Robinson’s Georgia driver’s license information showed her to currently be under a state of suspension at which point she was placed under arrest. None of the other occupants in the vehicle had a valid driver’s license at which time Little T’s Towing was dispatched to take possession. During inventory of the vehicle prior to towing a quantity of marijuana was found in Patrice Robinson’s seat resulting in an additional charge. The Officer who remained on scene at the Sunoco Station with Sabrina Williams ultimately placed her under arrest for public disorderly conduct. Both women were transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A suspicious person was reported in the parking lot of the Pizza Bella Restaurant at 8196 East Main Street.

A report was filed in reference to several subjects striking a vehicle with baseball bats at a residence on Hagin Drive.

A suspicious vehicle was reported at a residence on Oakridge Drive in the Oakridge Trailer Park Community.

A Ford Mustang was stopped for several moving violations on I-95 North where driver Magurisio Esparza was found to be in possession of several open containers of alcohol. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Scott’s Automotive took possession of the vehicle.

A suspicious person was reportedly knocking on tenants’ doors at the Carolina Lodge Motel at 8260 East Main Street.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the American Car Care Shop at 11263 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A suspicious person was reported at the intersection of South Jacob Smart Boulevard and West Main Street.

A domestic dispute was reported at a residence at Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street after a male was reportedly continuously knocking on the complainant’s door and harassing her. No charges were filed.

MAY 24, 2014

An assault was reported at Turpin Park at 901 North Logan Street where a female victim was found with a large cut to her arm. Upon further investigation Officers discovered a broken Seagram’s Gin bottle, which had been used as the weapon, behind the Jasper County School District Office at 10942 North Jacob Smart Boulevard where the incident had reportedly occurred. The victim was transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville and a warrant affidavit was later filed against D’etra Wright, 25 of Ridgeland, for the charge of assault & battery 2nd.

Patrol Officers responding to a report of a suspicious person discovered John Malphrus to be grossly intoxicated at Turpin Park at 901 North Logan Street. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A vehicle break in was reported at a residence on North Jasper Street after the owner discovered the interior in disarray around 6:30 am. A report was also filed by a resident on Owens Street around 1:00 am in reference to two males being confronted as they broke into his vehicle. The subjects fled the area on foot and no items were reported missing in either incident.

A civil dispute was reported at a residence on Pinckney Court in reference to landscaping equipment purchased by two parties.

Officers responded to a verbal domestic dispute at a residence at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue. No charges were filed.

Brett Burnette was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center after being found intoxicated and drinking alcohol at the picnic table area at Turpin Park at 901 North Logan Street.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Newlin Street.

A civil dispute was reported at the Christ Central Mission at 11754 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after one of the residents was found inside after the entire building had been sealed for fumigation. The residence supervisor was advised to contact the Jasper County Magistrate’s Office for assistance in eviction proceedings.

A report of a male knocking on a resident’s door and making threats was filed at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.

Davonte Freeman was discovered walking on Wise Street where he was placed under arrest in reference to two warrants being issued against him stemming from a sexual assault at the Forest Motel at 10504 South Jacob Smart Boulevard on May 23rd. He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A wallet was reported missing from an employee’s belongings at Ken’s Tire Service at 10464 South Jacob Smart Boulevard. The incident was captured on surveillance video which is being reviewed for suspect identification and pending charges.

A red Valero moped and a gray Volvo S40 were involved in a collision at the intersection of Main Street and Jacob Smart Boulevard where the operator of the moped, Rodney Wright, was found to be operating while impaired as well as without a valid driver’s license. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as J&M Towing took possession of the vehicle. No injuries were reported in the collision.

A custody dispute was reported at Turpin Park at 901 North Logan Street after one party failed to arrive at the agreed upon time.

An intoxicated male reportedly fell down a staircase at the Quality Inn Motel at 221 James Taylor Drive. He was transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville for treatment.

MAY 23, 2014

Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies conducting a driver safety checkpoint on Highway 17 at the exit 18 area where Daniel Watts attempted to drive a gray Oldsmobile thru the area without stopping for signaling Officers. He was stopped a few hundred yards later where he was found to be in possession of an open container of alcohol as well as operating while impaired. Twenty year old passenger Dominique Strobert was also found to be in possession of an open container of alcohol at which point both men were placed under arrest. They were transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as A-1 Towing took possession of the vehicle.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Family Dollar Store at 73 South Green Street.

Two men were captured on surveillance video breaking into the Star Point BP Station at 11122 North Jacob Smart Boulevard after breaking a hole through the rear wall of the business. The men then stole the business’s ATM machine as well as numerous store products and an undisclosed amount of cash in addition to causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Evidence collected at the scene has been submitted to the SLED Forensics Laboratory for analysis.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Jasper County Courthouse at 265 Russell Street.

A report was filed at the Ridgeland Weekly Rentals at 67 West Woodlawn Street in reference to an alleged sexual assault that reportedly occurred just prior at the Forest Motel at 10504 South Jacob Smart Boulevard. The victim was held against their will inside of a room and struck several times before being able to escape and flee to the Weekly Rentals location to call 911. Warrant affidavits have been filed against Davonte Freeman, 21 of Beaufort, for the charges of criminal domestic violence 1st and criminal sexual conduct 2nd.

A suspicious person was reported in the parking lot of Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue in reference to a male in possession of a handgun.

Officers responded to an assault between two men at the Carolina Lodge Motel at 8260 East Main Street. One of the parties involved, Shane McGovern, was found to be grossly intoxicated and became increasingly disruptive and uncooperative with Officers while being interviewed. He was then placed under arrest for public disorderly conduct at which time he attempted to flee but was unsuccessful. McGovern was then transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A Ford Focus and a Chevy Impala were involved in a collision at the drive thru area of the McDonald’s Restaurant at 8548 Grahamville Road. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Newlin Street.

A larceny report was filed by a tenant at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard after an undisclosed amount of cash turned up missing from the victim’s wallet.

A blue Chevy Silverado was stopped for several moving violations on Bees Creek Road at the Family Circle intersection where driver Ermes Calderon was found to be operating while intoxicated. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Blatchley’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

MAY 22, 2014

A report was filed by Coastal States Bank in Hilton Head in reference to a customer’s stolen debit card being used at the Regions Bank in Ridgeland at 11004 North Jacob Smart Boulevard and at the South Carolina Bank & Trust location at 10671 South Jacob Smart Boulevard. Charges are pending review of the bank ATM surveillance footage collected.

A suspicious person was reported at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.

A domestic dispute was reported at the Ridgeland Weekly Rentals at 67 West Woodlawn Street. No charges were filed.

Officers responded to a residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community where a report was filed of a male juvenile shooting another male juvenile with an airsoft gun plastic projectile. The father of the victim then reportedly struck the suspect juvenile prior to Officer’s arrival. No parties involved wished to pursue charges.

A male juvenile was reportedly attempting to enter an occupied residence at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.

Janine Nicole Defibaugh, 28 of Early Branch SC, turned herself in to Officers at the Ridgeland Police Department after an investigation was launched against her. Defibaugh was stopped for speeding 84 mph in a 55 mph zone with her 1 year old child sitting unrestrained in the vehicle at Coolers Store on Highway 462 on May 2nd. She then provided Officers with a relative’s name and date of birth in an effort to conceal her identity and avoid numerous charges against herself including driving under suspension. After turning herself in she was issued citations and assigned a court date for speeding, child restraint violation, driving under suspension & providing false information to Police.

A suspicious person was reported at an abandoned residence on Bailey Lane.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Southeast Pyrotechnics Store at 11142 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A harassment report was filed at the Beauty World Supply Store at 8205 East Main Street in reference to a female shouting and being disruptive towards employees.

MAY 21, 2014

Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies conducting a driver safety checkpoint at the intersection of Smith’s Crossing and Mitchelville Road where driver Christopher Burrison was found to be operating a red PT Cruiser while in possession of a quantity of marijuana and an open container of liquor as well as a loaded 40 caliber handgun. A second loaded 40 caliber handgun with a filed off serial number was recovered from the center console which Burrison and front seat passenger Trevon Wright were charged with as well as an additional open container of liquor in Wright’s possession. Rear seat passenger Reginald Hudson was found to be in possession of an open container of alcohol as well as a loaded 38 caliber handgun. Trevon Wright was also found to be listed as a wanted person by the Ridgeland Police Department stemming from an incident at a residence at Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community on January 29, 2010 where he was charged with two counts of theft of electric current. All three subjects were placed under arrest as Elite Towing took possession of the vehicle. Trevon Wright was found to have an untreated gunshot wound to his right leg which he stated he had received the night before at Club Pluto at 8812 South Jacob Smart Boulevard but had not reported to law enforcement. He was then transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville for treatment before being transported back to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A suspicious person was reported in the parking lot of the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 8225 East Main Street.

Two females were reportedly arguing and using profanity in the parking lot of Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street.

A suspicious vehicle was reported at the Ridgeland School at 250 Jaguar Trail.

Officers responded to the El Cheapo Service Station at 11033 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a blue Lexus driving away from the business without paying for fuel. Surveillance video of the incident was reviewed and a warrant affidavit was later filed against Lavatrice Quintina Willis, 32 of Ridgeland, for the offense.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the K&L Granite Showroom at 11472 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A black Acura RL was stopped for speeding on I-95 South where driver Elvin Cid, 20 of Zebulon NC, was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana. He was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date before leaving the area.

A suspicious person was reported at an abandoned residence on Bailey Lane.

A harassment report was filed by a resident at Logan Lane Apartments in reference to unwanted telephone calls and messages. No charges were filed.

MAY 20, 2014

A white Dodge Neon was stopped for speeding on I-95 South where driver Khristopher Shultz was found to be operating with a malfunctioning speedometer. An NCIC inquiry showed him to be listed as a wanted person by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Swansea Police Department for outstanding criminal domestic violence warrants. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to the registered owner.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Family Medical Practice at 109 South Green Street.

A suspicious person was reported at the Quality Inn Motel at 221 James Taylor Drive.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on James Taylor Drive.

Two males were involved in a fist fight in the parking lot of the Handy Dan’s Gulf Station at 8250 East Main Street. Neither party wished to pursue charges and both refused to cooperate with Law Enforcement.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Wright Direction Services Office at 112 South Railroad Avenue.

A Chevy Blazer and a Chrysler 200 were involved in a collision in the parking lot of the Short Stop BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Fourth Avenue.

A resident of the Christ Central Mission at 11754 North Jacob Smart Boulevard was reportedly asked to leave the property but refused. No charges were filed.

MAY 19, 2014

A binder containing several pieces of identification and credit cards was reported stolen from a tenant’s vehicle in the parking lot of the Days Inn Motel at 8216 East Main Street. The card was then used at several different businesses in the Orangeburg area.

A report of possible gunshots was filed by a resident at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.

Tommy Williams was placed under arrest at the Ridgeland Police Department during a session of Municipal Court in reference to two warrants being issued against him stemming from a financial transaction card fraud incident on May 17th. He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. Co-defendant Julie Hayward was later located by Patrol Officers at the Ridgeland Weekly Rentals at 67 West Woodlawn Street where she was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A Chevy Tahoe and a Dodge Intrepid were involved in a collision on Grays Highway in front of the Ridgeland High School at 456 Grays Highway. One subject was transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center.

A trespassing complaint was filed at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street where two males were reportedly sleeping inside of a vacant apartment. The subjects fled on foot when confronted by the complainant.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Grayco Home Supply Store at 119 Industrial Park Road.

Several pieces of personal identification were discovered on the roadway in front of the Palmetto Veterinary Clinic at 405 South Green Street. The owner was contacted and the property was returned.

Jasmine White turned herself in to Officers at the Ridgeland Police Department in reference to an outstanding warrant against her stemming from a traffic stop on Old House Road at the Good Hope Plantation intersection on September 19, 2013 where she was found to be operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license. She was cited for the offense but failed to appear in court to answer to the charge on October 28, 2013 resulting in a warrant being issued for her arrest.

MAY 18, 2014

Ridgeland Officers assisted Jasper County Deputies on a vehicle stop of a green Chevy Tahoe at Club Pluto at 8812 South Jacob Smart Boulevard where driver Rodrick Parker, 36 of Port Royal, was found to be sleeping in the driver’s seat with a loaded handgun in his lap. After the firearm was secured and Parker was detained he was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine as well as an additional loaded 9mm handgun which was located inside of the vehicle. He was charged and transported by Jasper County Deputies to the Detention Center.

A dispute over a breach of trust vehicle was reported at a residence on McCormack Avenue. Officers determined that the incident had occurred in Colleton County and advised the complainant of the proper channels to file a report.

A complaint was filed by a motorist on Highway 17 at the Smith’s Crossing intersection in reference to being followed by a subject in a white Mercedes allegedly brandishing a handgun.

A white Jeep was stopped for speeding on I-95 North around the 23 mile marker where driver Michael Harsch, 30 of Parma OH, was found to be in possession of a quantity of THC laced candy. He was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date before leaving the area.

A suspicious person driving a maroon van was reportedly following two patrons from Schooners Bar & Grill at 10953 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the K&L Granite Showroom at 11742 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A Ridgeland residence accidentally dropped a wallet in the parking lot of the Taylor’s BP Station at 80 Blue Heron Drive containing several pieces of identification and bank cards. One of the cards was later used at the Handy Dan’s Exxon Station at 8310 East Main Street and again at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 8225 East Main Street. Surveillance video and witness statements were collected and warrant affidavits have been filed against Julie Hayward, 51 of Ridgeland, and Tommy Williams, 50 of Ridgeland, for the charge of financial transaction card fraud.

A possible break in was reported at a residence on North Green Street. Officers were able to determine that the incident was unfounded and EMS Personnel were dispatched in order to evaluate the complainant’s medical condition.

A civil dispute was reported at the Ridgeland Police Department at 1 Town Square in reference to stored property at a relative’s residence on Fifth Avenue.

A suspicious person was reported at the Short Stop BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A case of possible animal abuse was reported at a residence on Floyd Street. The incident was determined to be unfounded.

MAY 16, 2014

Marvin Guinyard was placed under arrest at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center in reference to an outstanding warrant issued against him stemming from a traffic stop at the Short Stop BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard on April 30, 2014 where he was found to be operating a gold Chevy Tahoe under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license with a previous conviction for driving under suspension. He was advised to park the vehicle and not drive anymore until he gets his driver’s license reinstated which he failed to comply with and was seen again moments later driving the same vehicle South on Highway 17.

A suspicious person was reportedly knocking on tenants’ doors at the Quality Inn Motel at 221 James Taylor Drive.

A possible assault was reported at a residence at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue in reference to a subject allegedly being held against their will. The report was determined to be unfounded.

A white Chevy Monte Carlo was stopped for an expired tag violation on North Green Street where driver Keith McPherson, 25 of Ridgeland, was found to be operating with no valid insurance coverage. He was issued citations for the offenses and assigned a court date as Webster’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

A white Saturn Vue and a red Dodge Caravan were involved in a collision on Grays Highway in front of the Ridgeland High School at 250 Jaguar Trail. No injuries were reported.

Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center where an outstanding warrant was served on inmate Ali Thalid Heyward stemming from a traffic stop on July 8, 2009 where he was found to be operating a vehicle under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license. He was cited for the offense and found guilty in Ridgeland Municipal Court on July 13, 2009 and placed on a time payment plan to settle the Court ordered fines which he failed to comply with resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest on August 17, 2009.

A black Honda Civic was stopped for speeding on I-95 South around the 21 mile marker where driver William Kipersztok, 24 of Annapolis MD, was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana. He was cited for the offenses and assigned a court date before leaving the area.

A possible sexual assault was reported at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard. The alleged victim refused to cooperate or provide any information.

MAY 15, 2014

A report of identity theft was filed at the Ridgeland Weekly Rentals at 67 West Woodlawn Street after a tenant received two suspicious letters from credit card companies.

A suspicious person was reported at the Jasper County Council on Aging at 444 Wise Street.

John Washington was placed under arrest at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard after punching and breaking a window on the property during a dispute. He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Two suspicious persons were reported at the Days Inn Motel at 8216 East Main Street.

Officers responded to the parking lot of the Dollar General Store at 8123 East Main Street in reference to a fight in progress between 2 females.
A large group of subjects were reportedly attempting to start a fight in the parking lot of Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue. No charges were filed.

Two suspicious persons were reported at the Jaspers Porch Restaurant at 153 James Taylor Drive.

Officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence at Oakridge Trailer Park at 700 North Green Street.

A suspicious person was reported at a residence on East Adams Street.

Several tenants at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard were reportedly intoxicated and consuming alcohol behind one of the buildings. No charges were filed.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Wright Directions Church at 112 South Railroad Avenue.

A harassment complaint was filed at the Ridgeland Police Department at 1 Town Square in reference to a Carters Mill Road resident and their estranged spouse. No charges were filed.

MAY 14, 2014

A customer entered Ken’s Tire Service at 10464 South Jacob Smart Boulevard and purchased a used tire which was installed before discovering that her bank card was declined. Employees than allowed her to leave the premises with the agreement that she was going to her bank to retrieve payment. She then failed to return to the business at which time Law Enforcement was contacted. Larceny charges are pending.

A harassment complaint was filed by a resident at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue in reference to unwanted and threatening text messages. No charges were filed.

Employees at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 8225 East Main Street discovered Joshua Moore in the women’s restroom stuffing items into a backpack. He then left the store as law enforcement was contacted but was soon after located near the Harvey’s Grocery Store at 8205 East Main Street where he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A stray pit bull was reported at the Ridgeland Alternative School at 456 Grays Highway.

A palm tree recently purchased for a landscaping project at the American Car Care Center at 11263 North Jacob Smart Boulevard was reported stolen during the nighttime hours.

MAY 13, 2014

A white Pontiac with Florida tags struck a blue GMC Sonoma at the intersection of Highway 17 and Smith’s Crossing where the driver of the Pontiac fled the scene when he was told that law enforcement would be contacted to file an accident report. A detailed description of the suspect was provided to Investigators for pending charges.

A harassment complaint was filed at a residence on Floyd Street in reference to a neighbor causing a disturbance and making threats. No charges were filed.

Officers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Promise Way. No charges were filed.

Ridgeland Officers traveled to the Jasper County Detention Center at 12008 North Jacob Smart Boulevard where two outstanding warrants were served on inmate Hakim Mitchell. The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in January of 2004 where he provided Officers with a fictitious name in an effort to conceal his identity while driving under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license. He was then convicted of the charges in Ridgeland Municipal Court on February 2, 2004 and placed on a time payment plan to settle the Court ordered fines which he failed to do resulting in two warrants being issued for his arrest on April 6, 2004.

A domestic dispute was reported at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street between a tenant and a relative who was staying at the residence. No charges were filed.

Mariano Amaro was spotted consuming alcohol beside the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard at which time he immediately left the area upon seeing law enforcement. He was then interviewed in front of Blossoms On Main at 7769 West Main Street where Officers determined him to be intoxicated. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Shantay Jenkins turned herself in to Ridgeland Officers at the Jasper County Detention Center in reference to an outstanding warrant stemming from an assault at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue on April 25, 2014. She was placed under arrest and turned over to Detention Center Staff.

A harassment complaint was filed by a victim on West Main Street in reference to unwanted and threatening text messages. No charges were filed.

MAY 12, 2014

Ridgeland Investigators traveled to the Federal Correctional Institution in Estill SC where William Billy Phillips is serving an 18 month sentence on a Federal probation violation. Investigators then served a warrant on Phillips charging him with the May 18, 2013 murder of Darius Woods on East Adams Street in Ridgeland. He was then transported by Ridgeland Investigators and SLED Special Agents to the Jasper County Courthouse where Judge Murphy conducted an arraignment before being transported back to the Federal Correctional Institution in Estill.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Newlin Drive.

A blue Mongoose bicycle was reported stolen from a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community. It was soon after found by Patrol Officers discarded in a drainage ditch in front of the Jasper Animal Rescue Mission on Sisters Ferry Road and returned to the owner.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Ridgeland Baptist Church at 1448 Grays Highway.

An Open door was discovered at the H&R Block Tax Office at 8120 East Main Street which was determined to have been left open by an employee.

A Ford F150 pickup and a Ford Econoline van were involved in a collision at the intersection of Highway 17 and Smith’s Crossing. No injuries were reported.

Glenn Decosta was sentenced to 30 days in jail after being found guilty of a loitering charge in Ridgeland Municipal Court stemming from an incident at the Waffle House Restaurant at 8185 East Main Street on April 25th, 2014.

A suspicious person was reported inside of the Dairy Queen Restaurant at 80 Blue Heron Drive.

An open door on a vacant room was discovered at the Days Inn Motel at 8216 East Main Street. No persons were found inside and the room was secured.

MAY 11, 2014

A red Ford Focus was stopped for speeding on I-95 North where driver Cierra Murray was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana as well as operating under an invalid North Carolina driver’s license. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Scott’s Automotive took possession of the vehicle.

A harassment complaint was filed by a tenant at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to unwanted text messages. No charges were filed.

A loud music complaint was filed at the intersection of North Logan and East Main Street. No charges were filed.

A wallet containing several pieces of personal identification and an undisclosed amount of cash was reported stolen from a residence on Sailfish Circle in the Carters Mill Estates Community. Junior De La Mota is being sought for questioning.

Patrol Officers spotted Amanda Baker at the Quality Inn Motel at 221 James Taylor Drive where she was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. Baker was originally arrested and charged with failure to dim headlights and driving under suspension as well as a felony count of possession of crack cocaine during a traffic stop at the Waffle House Restaurant at 8185 East Main Street on August 24, 2013. She then failed to appear in Ridgeland Municipal Court to answer for the traffic charges on September 23, 2013 resulting in 2 warrants being issued for her arrest.

A trespassing complaint was filed by a tenant at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a subject at the location who was previously placed on trespass notice. No charges were filed.

A gray Dodge Ram pickup was stopped for a suspended tag violation on I-95 North around the 23 mile marker where driver Bradon Sigmon was found to be operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license stemming from a previous DUI conviction. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as the vehicle was released to a licensed passenger at Sigmon’s request.

A Grays Highway resident was transported by EMS Personnel to Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville for evaluation after reporting that she may want to harm herself following a domestic dispute.

An attempted A/C unit theft was reported at a residence on James Taylor Drive after the homeowner discovered that the breakers had been removed.

A Chrysler Pacifica and a Toyota Camry were involved in a collision in the parking lot of the Ridgeland Elementary School at 250 Jaguar Trail.

A Kel-Tec 9mm handgun was reported stolen from a residence at Baytree Apartments at 107 First Avenue.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on Newlin Drive.

A complaint was filed by a resident on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community in reference to 3 dogs being tied up outside of another residence with no food or water.

A welfare check was conducted on a residence on Hagin Drive after two 911 hang up calls were received.

A black Jeep Cherokee was stopped for an expired tag violation on East Main Street at the Logan Street intersection where passenger Jennifer Newton was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for 2 outstanding forgery warrants. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center pending extradition to Beaufort County. The driver of the vehicle was issued citations for the driving violations and assigned a court date before leaving the scene.

A civil dispute was reported at the Jasper County Courthouse at 305 Russell Street after a subject received payment for a tow that he reportedly failed to complete.

Ridgeland Animal Control responded to a recently vacated residence on Shadetree Street in the Carters Mill Estates Community in reference to 2 dogs being abandoned by the previous tenant. One of the dogs was found tied to a short lead with no food or water and the other was roaming free around the property.

A suspicious vehicle was reported at a residence on Wiley Street.

Three A/C units were reported stolen from various residences at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street and a fourth was found to have been damaged in an effort to steal it as well.

A red Dodge Avenger was stopped for speeding in front of the Forest Motel at 10504 South Jacob Smart Boulevard where driver Mario Prioleau, 38 of Ridgeland, was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana. He was issued citations for speeding and simple possession of marijuana and assigned a court date before leaving the scene.

MAY 6, 2014

A burglary was reported at the Family Dollar Store at 73 South Green Street after a large hole was discovered in the rear wall of the business. The suspect was captured on surveillance video stealing an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving through the same point of entry.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at a residence on East Woodlawn Street.

Patrol Officers stopped a white Chevrolet pickup on Family Circle for several moving violations which matched the description of the suspect vehicle involved in a hit and run collision that had just occurred on Highway 170 in Beaufort County. The driver of the vehicle, Alejandro Hernandez, was found to be operating without a driver’s license as well as under the influence of alcohol and in possession of an open container. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as J&M Towing took possession of the vehicle.

A hit and run collision was reported at the intersection of West Main Street and Railroad Avenue after a damaged area was discovered on a silver Chrysler passenger car. The incident was reported to have occurred on May 5th.

A green Ford Expedition was stopped for speeding on I-95 South around the 21 mile marker where driver Luis Manuel Hernandez-Cruz was found to be operating without a driver’s license. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Blatchley’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

Antoine Jones turned himself in to Ridgeland Officers at the Jasper County Detention Center at 12008 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to 2 outstanding warrants issued against him stemming from a traffic stop on Grays Highway on May 2nd.

A property damage report was filed at the All Print Custom Tee Store at 10876 North Jacob Smart Boulevard in reference to a pry mark on a rear door to the business.

A gray Oldsmobile Cutlass was stopped for speeding on Old House Road at the Summer Hill Road intersection where driver Andre Simmons was found to be operating under a suspended South Carolina driver’s license with one previous conviction for driving under suspension as well as being in possession of a quantity of marijuana. Officers were also advised that Simmons is listed as a wanted person for outstanding warrants by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the Port Royal Police Department & the Beaufort City Police Department. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Webster’s Towing took possession of the vehicle.

A silver 2012 Nissan Sentra was reportedly stolen from Old House Road at the entrance to Good Hope Plantation after the owner had a flat tire the previous day and was forced to leave it overnight.

Officers responded to a disabled blue Ford Probe stopped in the roadway at the exit 18 intersection of Bees Creek Road. The driver of the vehicle, Paul Kowacich, was found standing in the roadway by the vehicle with a beverage container which he attempted to discard on the roadway as Officers arrived on scene. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as Elite Towing took possession of the vehicle.

A disorderly subject was reportedly attempting to start a fight with a female tenant at the Siesta Motel at 10530 South Jacob Smart Boulevard. No charges were filed.

Officers responded to an activated alarm at the Carolina Collision Auto Body Shop at 11365 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.

A gray Chevrolet Impala was stopped at the Bank of Walterboro at 8058 East Main Street after Patrol Officers observed it coming from behind the Yorktel Wireless Store on South Jacob Smart Boulevard where several burglaries have recently occurred. The driver of the vehicle, Jesica Prioleau, was found to be in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana as passenger Torrell Kemp was found to be in possession of marijuana which he attempted to devour. Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as A-1 Towing took possession of the vehicle. During the booking process at the Detention Center Prioleau was found to be in possession of an additional quantity of marijuana resulting in an additional charge.

Three males were reportedly involved in a dispute in the parking lot of the Pizza Bella Restaurant on East Main Street and then again in the parking lot of the Handy Dan’s Gulf Station at 8250 East Main Street. No charges were filed.

MAY 3, 2014

Officers responded to a report of a verbal dispute inside of the Waffle House Restaurant at 8185 East Main where, upon arrival, Clifton O’Quinn was found to be intoxicated. After removing both O’Quinn and Vincent Luka from inside of the restaurant they both became increasingly loud and argumentive as Officers attempted to gather information from them at which time they were both placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. During the book process at the Detention Center Vincent Luka was found to be in possession of a container of liquor resulting in an additional charge due to him being under 21 years of age.

A Buick Rendezvous was involved in a single vehicle collision on I-95 North around the 21 mile marker. No injuries were reported.

A domestic dispute was reported at the Ridgeland Weekly Rentals at 67 West Woodlawn Street. No charges were filed.

MAY 2, 2014

A Chevrolet passenger car was stopped on Grays Highway for speeding 73 mph in a posted 35 mph zone where driver Antoine Jones placed a fictitious 911 call during the traffic stop in order to avoid charges/arrest. 911 Operators received a call during the traffic stop from a male stating that a burglary had just occurred at Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street in which a subject had been shot. The Officer then returned Jones’ identification to him before completing a citation in order to respond to the shooting incident however, once on scene at Woodridge apartments, found no evidence of any such event. Upon further investigation, the 911 call received was found to have originated from the same GPS coordinates as the traffic stop with Antoine Jones. Several other key pieces of evidence were gathered before two warrants were ultimately issued for Jones’ arrest.

Patrol Officers observed Tommy Groves intoxicated and staggering on the side of the roadway in front of the Main Street Pharmacy at 7752 West Main Street. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A domestic dispute was reported at the Ridgeland Weekly Rentals at 67 West Woodlawn Street. No charges were filed.

Patrol Officers responded to a report of a suspicious subject in the wooded area bordering the Ridgeland Correctional Institution around the 22 mile marker on I-95 North. Two males were discovered in the area having arrived in a blue Ford Expedition which was found to contain several packages of contraband wrapped for introduction over the prison fence line. Rodney Butler and Jalik Tucker were both then placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center as J&M Towing took possession of the vehicle. Jalik Tucker originally provided arresting Officers with a fictitious name and date of birth in an effort to conceal his identity due to being listed as a wanted person by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office for an attempted murder charge. A hold was placed on him to await extradition to Kershaw County.

Officers discovered Brad Sandifer inside of a vacant residence on Hagin Drive where he had destroyed the HVAC system in an effort to steal a quantity of copper wire and piping. In addition, Sandifer was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

MAY 1, 2014

Officers responded to a civil dispute behind the Subway Restaurant at 8234 East Main Street in reference to a check written on a closed account used to purchase several thousand dollars worth of tires from a private dealer. The information was forwarded to the Jasper County Solicitor’s Officer Fraud Department for prosecution. Simmons is already listed as a wanted person for multiple felony fraud warrants by the St. George and Manning Police Departments.

Officers responded to a verbal domestic dispute at a residence on Wise Street where one of the parties involved, Joseph Hopkins, was found to be listed as a wanted person by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in reference to an outstanding Family Court bench warrant. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center to await extradition by Berkeley County.

A civil dispute was reported at a residence on West Main Street in reference to an alleged fraudulent vehicle registration.

A strong arm robbery was reported at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 8225 East Main Street after a customer grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from an employee.

A female customer reportedly threw a hot beverage on the grill cook at the Waffle House Restaurant around 4:45 this morning. Video footage of the incident has been collected for suspect identification and pending chages.

A silver Kia Optima was reportedly damaged in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard.
