THE FOLLOWING INCIDENTS ARE AN ACCOUNT OF CALLS AND CASES RESPONDED TO BY OFFICERS OF THE RIDGELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT. THESE CASES ARE CLOSED OR CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. FEBRUARY 28, 2013

A Bersa .380 handgun was stolen out of a vehicle parked in the Goodwill parking lot at 10750 South Jacob Smart Boulevard.

Victoria Skinner reported that her debit card was stolen on February 1st and has been used in the Ridgeland area for various purchases and ATM withdrawals. Surveillance footage has been obtained and reviewed for suspect identification.

A green 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup was towed from I-95 South around the 22 mile marker after it was found abandoned with no vehicle license.

A silver Dodge Charger was stopped on I-95 North where the driver, Michael Gregory, was found to have a suspended driver’s license and outstanding warrants out of Dorchester County. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 27, 2013

$20 worth of lottery tickets were stolen from the Sunoco Station at 11965 North Jacob Smart Boulevard. The incident was captured on surveillance video and warrant affidavits have been filed.

Heather Adams made a complaint of receiving harassing text messages and facebook posts.

FEBRUARY 26, 2013

Roger Simmons Jr. was arrested without incident at the KFC Restaurant at 8146 East Main Street in reference to an outstanding warrant. He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A South Carolina 45 day temporary vehicle license was reported missing from the parking lot of the Council on Aging at 506 Wise Street, possibly having fallen off of the vehicle during heavy thunderstorms the 2 days prior.

Officers responded to the parking lot of Baytree Apartments in front of building 3 where a fight had allegedly taken place. Subjects on scene were uncooperative with Officers and no charges were filed.

Larry Seabrook Malphrus III was placed under arrest in front of Ridgeland Weekly Rentals and charged with financial transaction card fraud. A hold was also placed on him by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for outstanding warrants with that agency.

FEBRUARY 25, 2013

Larry Malphrus Sr. made a complaint of several incidents of financial transaction card fraud by Larry Malphrus III.
Officers responded to 121 Eleanor Avenue where a complaint was made against Amanda Maggard
for financial transaction card fraud.

FEBRUARY 24, 2013

Officers responded to Woodridge Apartments at 414 South Logan Street in reference to a complaint of harassment where a report was filed of receiving threatening text messages.

Officers responded to 294 Shadetree Street in reference to a domestic dispute where Patricia Benson was placed under arrest for criminal domestic violence and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A report was filed at the Ridgeland Police Department by Mario Rivas in reference to a civil dispute between himself and Thomas Salmeron over an unpaid debt in which Salmeron allegedly threatened Rivas and kicked his car door. No charges were filed.

A 2004 Dodge was stopped at the intersection of North Jacob Smart Boulevard and Third Avenue for an improper tag. The vehicle license displayed showed registered to a 1997 Honda in Greenville SC. The driver was issued citations for improper vehicle license, expired vehicle license & open container.

A Toyota Corolla was stopped at the 22 mile marker on I-95 South for speeding where the driver, Ray Perkins, was found to have a suspended driver’s license at which time he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. The passenger was issued a citation for allowing an unauthorized driver and allowed to take possession of the vehicle.

A Goodman air conditioning unit valued at $3000 was stolen from the Tail-e-Wags business at 23 Getsinger Street during the night of the 23rd. Evidence collected at the scene has been submitted to the SLED Forensic Laboratory for testing.

Officers responded to Logan Lane Apartment number 19 in reference to a domestic dispute where Duwud Fletcher was placed under arrest for criminal domestic violence. He was then transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 23, 2013

A silver Chevy Malibu was stopped at the intersection of Shadetree and Sailfish Streets for having a suspended vehicle license. The driver, Victor Cortez, was subsequently found to have no driver’s license and no valid insurance coverage at which point he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 22, 2013

A white 2013 Dodge Charger was stolen from 37 Lydia’s Lane and later found wrecked in the Mitchelville area. Evidence collected from the vehicle has been submitted to the SLED Forensics Laboratory for testing.

A Kawasaki Ninja was stopped on I-95 North for speeding where the operator, Christopher Akins, was found to have an expired driver’s license, no motorcycle license and no valid insurance coverage. Akins was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A vehicle was stopped in front of the Subway Restaurant on East Main Street after Officers received information that Jason Spann was a passenger inside the car. Spann had outstanding warrants with Ridgeland PD as well as with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Kraig Blatchley voluntarily turned himself in to Ridgeland Investigators in reference to a warrant for his arrest being issued following a shoplifting incident at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store on February 20th. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 21, 2013

South Carolina Highway Patrol detained Tyrone Sterling after an outstanding warrant was confirmed with the Ridgeland Police Department. Ridgeland Officers then took custody of Sterling and transported him to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Officers responded to the BP Station at 10728 South Jacob Smart Boulevard where a man was reportedly causing a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers made contact with Coy Jones who had refused to leave the BP Station when told to by the store Manager. Jones was placed under arrest for trespassing and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center where he was also served with an outstanding warrant from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

FEBRUARY 20, 2013

A white male entered the Piggly Wiggly grocery store at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard where he went to the butcher section and concealed a package of pork chops underneath his jacket. He was confronted by Store Manager Tom Goswick as he attempted to leave the store where he dropped the package and fled out of the store getting into a vehicle and driving towards South Green Street.

A traffic stop was conducted on a blue Nissan Maxima at the intersection of Rice Shire and Bees Creek Road for a suspended vehicle license where the driver, Camelia Grayson, was found to have a suspended driver’s license and no valid insurance coverage. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A traffic stop was conducted on a silver Chevy Cruz on I-95 South around the 22 mile marker for following too closely and failure to maintain lane. After the driver, Charles Jones Jr., was found to have a suspended Virginia driver’s license all 3 occupants were discovered to have several American Express Visa gift cards concealed in their pants, for a total of 44 in all. Following interviews with each of the subjects US Secret Service agents were contacted who later arrived to conduct their own investigation. Charles Jones Jr. was later transported to Jasper County Detention Center for no driver’s license and all 3 subjects, Charles Jones Jr, Devonair Pedraza & Ashton Hackett, have pending indictments from the Secret Service who has adopted the case.

A silver Grand Marquis was stopped at the intersection of Wood Duck and Shadetree for an expired tag. The vehicle was towed from the scene after Officers discovered it had no valid insurance coverage.

A traffic stop was conducted on Coosaw Scenic Drive in the Cooler’s Store area on a blue Crown Victoria for speeding. The driver, Abraham North, provided the Officer with a false name in an attempt to conceal his identity. North was subsequently arrested for providing false information to police and driving under suspension 3rd offense.

Officers responded to a residence at 2955 Bees Creek Road where it was reported that someone was attempting to break in through a rear window. No suspects were found on scene or in the area following a thorough search.

FEBRUARY 19, 2013

A Goodman air Conditioning unit was stolen from 124 Hagin Drive sometime between 7 am and 7 pm. Evidence collected has been submitted to the SLED Forensics Lab for testing.

A traffic stop was conducted at North Jacob Smart Boulevard and Nuna Rock Road for speeding and failure to maintain lane. The driver, James Steven Hinely, was found to have a suspended driver’s license at which point he was placed under arrest and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Seven air conditioning units were stolen from the back of the Health Department building at 359 East Wilson Street facing Turpin Park. Several pieces of evidence were recovered from the scene and have been submitted to the SLED Forensics Lab for testing.

FEBRUARY 18, 2013

Officers responded to a call about a 5 to 6 year old child running up and down Hagin Street in the roadway towards 278 unsupervised. Officers returned the child to her home and contacted the Department of Social Services.

Officers responded to a call about a man hitchhiking in front of the Post Office at 7554 West Main Street who was reportedly jumping in front of moving vehicles. As Officers approached the man was seen stumbling off of the sidewalk into traffic. Gill Nathaniel Burrison was found to be grossly intoxicated at which time he was arrested for Public Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 17, 2013

A traffic stop was conducted on the I-95 North exit 21 off ramp for speeding. The driver of the vehicle, Luis Vigoa was cited for Speeding and Operating Uninsured. The vehicle was towed by Blatchley’s Auto.

A traffic stop was conducted in the area of the 18 mile marker on I-95 South for speeding. The driver, 19 year old Rashawn Johnson, was found to have a suspended driver’s license at which time he was placed under arrest. A marijuana grinder, along with a quantity of marijuana and hashish were recovered from the vehicle as well as an open bottle of liquor. Johnson was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A two tone, plumb over burgundy, 1989 Chevy Caprice with 24″ rims registered to Jeremiah Eady was stolen from the parking lot of Logan Lane Apartments at 544 South Logan Street between 3:00 & 8:00 am.

A Florida license plate, (ASJ-G89), was stolen off of a 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup in the parking lot of the Days Inn Motel at 8216 East Main Street between 1:00 and 6:45 am.

Officers responded to a call at 292 Second Avenue where Patrick Malphrus was placed under arrest for Attempted Murder. He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 16, 2013

An air conditioning unit was stolen from a private residence at 201 McCormack street valued at $3,000 sometime during the last 1 to 2 weeks. The lines to an additional three units on the property were found cut but were removed by the property owner.

Larry Huguee was placed under arrest at 107 Roseland Road in service of two outstanding warrants. He was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 15, 2013

A traffic stop was conducted on Woodlawn Street by the Wise Street intersection for an improper tag. The driver, Markeshia Dupont, stated that she had no insurance on the vehicle and was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest at which time she was placed under arrest. A strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle and, following a vehicle search, 2 clear plastic baggies containing marijuana were recovered. Passengers Shana Smith and Heather Adams were both then placed under arrest for Simple Possession and all three were transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A traffic stop was conducted at 8309 East Main Street for an improper lane change at which time the driver and passenger switched positions prior to the Officer approaching. A strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle which the driver stated had been smoked prior to the stop. The original driver, Demtrick Coney, was placed under arrest for No Driver’s License and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A safety checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of Sycamore Drive and Smiths Crossing where John Franklin, after attempting an illegal u-turn to avoid the checkpoint, was found to have slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Following a battery of standard field sobriety tests Franklin was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence 2nd Offense and Open Container. He was then transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A safety checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of Sycamore Driver and Smiths Crossing where a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside a vehicle operated by Shawn Hall. Passenger Malcolm Singleton stated that he and Hall had smoked earlier in the day but didn’t have any marijuana inside the vehicle at the checkpoint. A search of the vehicle produced a quantity of schedule 4 narcotics, (Xanax), which Singleton claimed ownership of. Singleton was then placed under arrest for Possession with Intent to Distribute Xanax as Hall was placed under arrest for Driving Under Suspension. Both were then transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

FEBRUARY 14, 2013

A traffic stop was conducted in front of the Ridgeland Coin Laundry at 10246 South Jacob Smart Boulevard on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver, Kelly Connolly, was found to be operating with a driver’s license at which time she was arrested. A schedule II narcotic, (methadone), was found in her possession before being transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

A traffic stop was conducted in front of Advance Auto Parts at 10424 South Jacob Smart Boulevard for a seat belt violation at which time a strong odor of alcohol could be smelled coming from inside. Passenger Jocelyn George, who is under 21 years of age, was found to have an open bottle of vodka in her purse. The driver, Cody Johnson, consented to a field sobriety test and was ultimately placed under arrest for DUI. Both subjects were transported to the Jasper County Detention Center where, during the booking process, Cody Johnson was found to be in possession of marijuana.

A traffic stop was conducted at McCormack and Sisters Ferry Road on a vehicle with no plates. The driver, Edward Alonzo Brown III, stated he didn’t have any identification with him and gave a false name and date of birth. After discovering his true identity Brown was placed under arrest for Providing False Information to Police, Driving Under Suspension, Operating Uninsured Vehicle & Simple Possession of Marijuana. He was also found to have active outstanding warrants with Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and SC Department of Probation & Parole.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in progress in front of the Post Office at 7554 West Main Street. Upon arrival Anastasia Aiken and Erica Fripp were found arguing on the sidewalk. Anastasia had a strong odor of alcohol about her and refused to follow Officers’ directions and separate at which point she was placed under arrest for Public Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. She was also found to have an active outstanding warrant for her arrest.

FEBRUARY 13, 2013

Jordan Brigham was stopped on I-95 South near Exit 18 where a 38 caliber handgun was found behind the front passenger seat as well as an open bottle of liquor and a bag containing scales, plastic bags and marijuana. Brigham was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

The former Clemson Extension building located at 248 West Langford Street was burglarized at a yet undetermined time. Once inside the burglar cut the power lines to the breaker box and stole a small amount of copper wire.

A shoplifting occurred at the Piggly Wiggly Supermarket at 10847 North Jacob Smart Boulevard where Albert Bright attempted to steal items totaling $5.94 in value. Bright was placed on trespass notice for the business and a warrant affidavit was filed.

A resident on Brandon Cove in the North Ridge neighborhood made a complaint of receiving harassing and threatening messages on his Facebook account.

Blossoms Flower Shop at 7769 West Main Street had an attempted burglary during the overnight hours of February 12. The suspect was unable to gain entry into the business.

A blue Chevy Caprice was stopped on Highway 462 for a speeding violation at which time an open bottle of beer was found in the possession of 19 year old Kenyae Robinson. The driver, McKevie Davis, was cited for speeding & providing alcohol to a minor. Robinson was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and open container.
